Ever wondered how the Amish came to Pennsylvania? Or how a religious movement that began in Europe 500 years ago became such an enduring part of our local history?
Join us TOMORROW, Tuesday, October 20, at 2:30 PM at Friends Village for a fascinating trip back in time!
Amish History: The Foundational Years (1525–1775)
From the Swiss Brethren to the City of Brotherly Love and the Land of Contentment
Discover the people, beliefs, and events that shaped the Amish community, from its roots in the Swiss Brethren and Anabaptist movement to persecution in Europe, migration across the Atlantic, and the establishment of Amish settlements in Pennsylvania.
Our presenter, Paul G. Schenk Jr., J.D., lives in the historic Conestoga Valley Amish settlement area and brings a wealth of knowledge and a passion for sharing the stories behind Amish history.
And here’s something to think about: The oldest continuously existing Amish settlement dates back to 1760, right here in Pennsylvania!
Whether you’re a history buff, curious about our Pennsylvania heritage, or simply love discovering the stories behind the communities around us, this is an afternoon worth spending with us.

Whole Body Breathing: Join Amy for an exploration of your body’s amazing ability to breathe well. By improving how you breathe, you’ll discover the power you possess to cultivate balance, ease, and mental clarity. This way of moving and breathing is simple, gentle, and enjoyable. It is useful for those with challenges like asthma, anxiety, chronic fatigue, ADHD, or persistent “foggy brain.” But you don’t have to have breathing problems to benefit. Everyone can use a more refined relationship with their body and breathing. Details Here.
Get Sense-able: Awakening with Four Things You Already Do: Sitting, standing, walking, and lying down: We find ourselves in these four postures every day. They are so constant that we don’t notice how we do them, or even what they feel like. Bringing present moment awareness
to our everyday movements wakes us up.
This experiential workshop will use applied Alexander Technique
and mindfulness-in-motion to explore what it is to move and live in our bodies – no matter what challenges they may bring – with ease, balance, and clarity. This process does not correct for Right and Wrong ways of moving but instead emphasizes freedom from stuck patterns and stale reactions. We’ll investigate what might be getting in the way of flow, steadiness, and pleasure when we move. Details Here.
