Join us on Wednesday, July 1 for Free First Wednesday as we bring together history, civics, hands-on activities, and a nostalgic pizza party atmosphere.
Visitors can make Freedom Quilt squares, participate in Civic Season activities, and enjoy a fun, welcoming way to learn something new together.
A guest speaker, Jason Gulai, Director of the Endicott Center for Civic Participation, with be present to lead a family-friendly conversation around civics, what it can look like to be an active member of society, and what our part looks like. There will be 2 sessions of this discussion at 4:15 PM &amp; 5:15 PM.

Founded in 2018 by violin virtuoso Etienne Gara, Delirium Musicum is a Los Angeles–based string ensemble that channels the artistic excellence, energy, and leadership of a new generation of musicians. Drawing inspiration from the city’s vibrant cultural mosaic and boundary-bending spirit, the ensemble forges a distinctive musical identity shaped by diversity, spontaneity, and bold artistic curiosity. Its members represent nine countries across four continents, and their programs juxtapose music from across eras and styles, creating performances that invite audiences into deeply human and immediate musical experiences.
Praised as “ferocious and rhythmically mesmerizing” by San Francisco Classical Voice, Delirium Musicum is widely recognized for its out-of-the-box programming and electrifying live performances. Los Angeles Times critic Mark Swed describes the group as “a step ahead, ready for anything—virtuosic and versatile.” Through concerts, tours, recordings, and multimedia projects, the ensemble reaches audiences of wide-ranging backgrounds and musical tastes.
Delirium Musicum’s debut album, Seasons, was released on Warner Classics in April 2023 to international acclaim. Critics across Europe praised the ensemble’s intensity, urgency, and ability to connect deeply with listeners, with Diapason noting the group’s energy and tension in its vivid interpretations. Recent projects include Treelogy, a three-part collaborative work with composers Billy Childs, Steven Mackey, and Gabriella Smith, commissioned by The Soraya and premiered in Los Angeles in 2023. Inspired by California’s Joshua trees, sequoias, and redwoods devastated by wildfires, the project was hailed by the Los Angeles Times as “a sublime, classical ode to California’s redwoods, sequoias and Joshua trees.”
Community engagement is central to Delirium Musicum’s mission. During the pandemic, Gara and violinist YuEun Kim launched MusiKaravan, traveling the West Coast in a 1971 VW bus to perform socially distanced concerts for diverse communities. The project evolved into an award-winning streaming series and continues today. The ensemble also presents Baby Concerts, developed with USC’s Brain and Creativity Institute, offering interactive musical experiences for infants, toddlers, and caregivers.

JOSHUA BELL, violin With a career spanning nearly four decades, GRAMMY® Award–winning violinist Joshua Bell CBE is one of the most celebrated and influential artists of his era. He has performed with virtually every major orchestra in the world and maintains an extraordinarily active career as a soloist, recitalist, chamber musician, conductor, and Music Director of the Academy of St Martin in the Fields. In 2025, Bell was awarded an honorary Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) by King Charles III for services to music.
Highlights of Bell’s 2024–25 season include the release of two new albums: Thomas De Hartmann Rediscovered, featuring the world premiere recording of De Hartmann’s Violin Concerto with the INSO-Lviv Orchestra, and an album of Mendelssohn piano trios recorded with longtime collaborators Jeremy Denk and Steven Isserlis. An avid recitalist, Bell tours internationally and performs his popular Voice and the Violin program with soprano Larisa Martínez throughout North America. As a guest soloist, he appears with leading orchestras including the New York Philharmonic, Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France, and Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra, while also conducting and performing with major ensembles across Europe and the U.S.
Bell has served as Music Director of the Academy of St Martin in the Fields since 2011, following a relationship with the orchestra that dates back to 1986. His recordings with the Academy include GRAMMY®-nominated and chart-topping releases, and his contract has been extended through the 2027–28 season.
A champion of new music, Bell has commissioned and premiered works by John Corigliano, Edgar Meyer, Jessie Montgomery, Jennifer Higdon, Kevin Puts, and others. His GRAMMY®-winning recording of Nicholas Maw’s Violin Concerto is among many acclaimed releases for Sony Classical, with whom he has recorded more than forty albums.
Born in Bloomington, Indiana, Bell studied with Josef Gingold, debuted with the Philadelphia Orchestra at age 14, and made his Carnegie Hall debut at 17. He continues to inspire audiences worldwide through performances, recordings, education initiatives, and innovative collaborations across musical genres.
 LARISA MARTINEZ, soprano Internationally acclaimed soprano Larisa Martínez is widely recognized as one of the most compelling vocal artists of her generation. Born and raised in Puerto Rico, she is praised for her warm lyric coloratura voice, expressive musicianship, and captivating stage presence. Opera News lauded her portrayal of Rossini’s Corinna (Il viaggio a Reims), writing that “Ms. Martínez cut an elegant figure, her deportment on stage matching that of her singing.”
Ms. Martínez has appeared in leading operatic roles including Violetta (La Traviata) with Wichita Grand Opera, Sophie (Werther) alongside Piotr Beczala, and Maria (West Side Story) conducted by Lawrence Foster at Festival Napa Valley, sharing the stage with tenor Michael Fabiano. Her concert appearances include Mahler’s Symphonies Nos. 2 and 4, Mozart’s Requiem, Villa-Lobos’ Floresta do Amazonas, and performances presented by Renata Scotto in Rome, recorded for Euroclassics.
In 2019, Martínez made her Kennedy Center recital debut and her Carnegie Hall Stern Auditorium debut singing Mahler’s Resurrection Symphony. She created the role of Isaura in the world premiere of Mercadante’s Francesca da Rimini in Italy under Fabio Luisi and Pier Luigi Pizzi. That same year, she was invited to Cuba as part of President Barack Obama’s artistic delegation, appearing in the Emmy®-nominated PBS special Live from Lincoln Center: Seasons of Cuba.

Here at the Dumpling School we like to consider ourselves not as a traditional cooking class but more of a dumpling PARTY! When you sign up for one of our dumpling parties, we want you to have as much fun as possible while learning a new skill.

You don’t have to be a cooking expert to enjoy one of our events. We welcome people of all skill levels and interests to take part in our dumpling parties. Since we are focusing on fun and not precision and accuracy, this is the perfect, relaxed environment for friends, family, and loved ones.

The Balourdet Quartet and Terra String Quartet join forces with Artistic Director Barry Shiffman on viola for an expansive program featuring works by Borodin and Ravel, Shostakovich’s Octet, and the U.S. premiere of a work by Osvaldo Golijov. The Balourdet Quartet is acclaimed for its vibrant energy, fearless creativity, and masterful blend of technical precision and emotional depth, bringing fresh perspective to both classical masterworks and contemporary repertoire. The ensemble’s close musical rapport and willingness to take risks have earned major recognition, including an Avery Fisher Career Grant and Chamber Music America’s Cleveland Quartet Award in 2024. Performing more than seventy concerts per season, the Quartet has made notable debuts at Carnegie Hall and Wigmore Hall, and has premiered new works by Karim Al-Zand, Paul Novak, and Nicky Sohn, supported by grants from Chamber Music America and the Barlow Foundation.
Founded in 2018, the Balourdet Quartet’s roots trace to the Taos School of Music, where founding members bonded over chamber music, shared meals, and friendship—later joined by violist Benjamin Zannoni at Rice University. The ensemble has since earned top prizes at the Concert Artists Guild Competition, Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition, Banff International String Quartet Competition, Premio Paolo Borciani Competition, and Yellow Springs Competition, and trained at the New England Conservatory Professional String Quartet Program under Paul Katz.

Winners of the 2025 Naumburg Chamber Music Competition and recent prizewinners at the Bordeaux and Wigmore Hall International String Quartet Competitions, the Terra String Quartet (TSQ) is a vibrant international ensemble based in New York City. Formed by graduates of The Juilliard School, New England Conservatory, Harvard University, and the Curtis Institute of Music, TSQ is recognized for its sincere storytelling, artistic rigor, and versatile approach to repertoire, fostering genuine human connection through both performance and pedagogy.
The Quartet is the 2024–26 Fellowship Ensemble-in-Residence at the Yale School of Music, where its members coach undergraduate chamber music ensembles. Known for performances that balance intellectual depth with emotional immediacy, the Terra String Quartet continues to establish itself as a compelling and distinctive voice in today’s chamber music landscape. Outside the concert hall, the members enjoy playing Mahjong together and deepening their shared curiosity about instruments and bows.
BARRY SHIFFMAN, violin/viola Violinist and violist Barry Shiffman has enjoyed a distinguished career as a performer, recording artist, teacher, and arts leader. He made his debut with the Toronto Symphony Orchestra at age 15 and in 1989 co-founded the St. Lawrence String Quartet. During his 17 years with the ensemble, he performed more than 2,000 concerts worldwide, including appearances at Rockport Music, and recorded several critically acclaimed albums for EMI Classics.
A highly respected teacher and chamber music coach, Shiffman has served as artist-in-residence at Stanford University and as visiting artist at the University of Toronto, and has been involved in the premieres of hundreds of new works. He was recently named Dean of The Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto, following many years of leadership there and at the Banff Centre. Yuja Wang, piano Pianist Yuja Wang is internationally acclaimed for her charismatic artistry, emotional honesty, and commanding stage presence. Renowned for both her extraordinary virtuosity and the spontaneity of her performances, she is one of the most compelling classical artists of our time, appearing regularly with the world’s leading orchestras, conductors, and musicians. As she has noted in The New York Times, “I firmly believe every program should have its own life,” a philosophy that shapes her bold and deeply personal approach to music-making.
Born into a musical family in Beijing, Wang began piano studies at an early age before pursuing advanced training in Canada and later at the Curtis Institute of Music, where she studied with Gary Graffman. Her international breakthrough came in 2007, when she stepped in for Martha Argerich as soloist with the Boston Symphony Orchestra, launching a major global career. Two years later, she signed an exclusive recording contract with Deutsche Grammophon, cementing her position among the leading pianists of her generation.
Wang’s artistic daring was recently showcased in a landmark marathon performance at Carnegie Hall, where she joined Yannick Nézet-Séguin and the Philadelphia Orchestra to perform all four of Rachmaninoff’s piano concertos and the Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini in a single afternoon, celebrating the composer’s 150th anniversary. A passionate advocate for contemporary music, she has also given the world premiere of Magnus Lindberg’s Piano Concerto No. 3.
Her recordings have earned numerous honors, including Musical America’s Artist of the Year and an Opus Klassik Award. With her fearless programming and vivid musical imagination, Yuja Wang continues to redefine the role of the classical artist in the 21st century.

Candle Making Class: Fun Candle Making With Instructor Neemah

Saturday, July 11, 2026 On the Town transforms Rockport into a day full of live music, contemporary circus, and fun from Harvey Park and Bearskin Neck to Front Beach and Millbrook Meadow. The Shalin Liu Performance Center will host tours and concerts, and Millbrook Meadow will serve as the day’s hub with a tented performance space for music, circus, and hands-on activities for all ages. There are many ways you can be “On the Town”. We are looking for performers across genres who are excited to share their work, volunteers who want to support a free day of family fun, and of course audience members for all the shows happening throughout the day! Discover What’s Happening A full schedule of performers and map of community stage locations will be released in mid-June. Across Town Live music pops up throughout Rockport all day long, beginning at the farmers’ market in Harvey Park and continuing through downtown, Bearskin Neck, and Front Beach. Community stages feature rotating performances by musicians from across Cape Ann and beyond. 9am music starts at the Rockport Exchange Farmers’ Market 10-12pm community stage performances 3-6pm community stage performances Shalin Liu Performance Center The concert hall and third-floor reception room will be open for tours, hands-on activities, and a collage-style concert featuring short performances by community artists. 11am doors open for docent-led tours and kids craft activities on the third floor. 2-5pm collage concert of community stages artists Millbrook Meadow A tented performance space blends contemporary circus and live music, from an afternoon picnic-style performance to an evening spectacle. Visitors can also try circus activities throughout the day with teaching artists from Seaside Circus Cape Ann. Feature performances 12pm Circus 617 Mixtape featuring the Balourdet Quartet and Mile Wilder 6:30pm Circus Extravaganza finale featuring the Boston Circus Guild and Emperor Norton’s Stationary Marching Band Find Yourself On the Town Musicians Calling musicians from the North Shore and beyond! We’re looking for performers across genres who are excited to share their work in an open, community-centered setting while maintaining a high level of artistic quality and engagement. Apply to perform here: On the Town Musician Application. Applications are due Friday, June 5. There will be rotating performances on the hour at 5 outdoor Community Stage locations throughout Rockport, from 10am-12pm and 3pm-6pm. Each selected applicant will also have the opportunity to be assigned a 10 minute slot to perform at the Shalin Liu Performance Center stage. Each group will receive an honorarium, dependent on number of performers and number of performances. Volunteers Interested in supporting Rockport Music On the Town as a volunteer? With music all over town and events happening throughout the day at the Shalin Liu Performance Center and our big tent on Millbrook Meadow, we almost certainly have a place for you to help out! Volunteers will be scheduled in 2 to 3 hour shifts and will have the opportunity to choose from a variety of assignments including: Setup, Community Stage Monitor, Millbrook Meadow Activity Support, Shalin Liu Performance Center, Artist Liaison, and Breakdown/Cleanup. The third floor of the Shalin Liu Performance Center will be an air-conditioned escape with crafting activities for kids. The Boston Pops Fireworks Spectacular returns to the Hatch Shell on the Charles River Esplanade for its 52nd year on Saturday, July 4, from 7:00 to 9:30 p.m. ET. Led by legendary conductor Keith Lockhart, the Pops concert welcomes three very special guest artists: Grammy-winning country music superstar Lainey Wilson, three-time Grammy winner Chance The Rapper, and Grammy-winning NOLA icon Trombone Shorty, each making their first appearance with the Pops.

Two sessions are available during our summer semester. SESSION I: July 6th to July 27th SESSION II: July 29th to August 19th Both are on Mondays &amp; Wednesday from 9:00 AM to 3:30 PM. We offer two levels: Regular &amp; Advanced (for students who have taken the regular level in the past).
