the appointment of Maestro Stefano Vignati, current Music Director
and Principal Conductor, as&nbsp;General Director, ushering in a
renewed vision centered on artistic excellence, financial
sustainability, community engagement, and international

Under
Maestro Vignati's leadership, whose distinguished international
career continues to elevate Opera Carolina's profile on the world
stage, the company turns the page and reaffirms its commitment to
serving Charlotte through exceptional performances, strong
educational initiatives, and renewed relationships with audiences and
donors.

Recently,
Maestro Vignati conducted the Puccini Festival Torre del Lago
production of Turandot during a landmark tour of China, inaugurating
the centennial celebrations in Xiamen, Chongqing, and Wuhan in the
presence of the Honorable Christopher L. Green, Consul General of the
United States in Wuhan. This summer, he will conduct the Orchestra of
the Teatro Carlo Felice di Genova at the prestigious Lerici Music
Festival, leading the world premiere of “Per Mare”, a
symphonic work by composer Roberto Di Marino. Through his extensive
international collaborations and artistic leadership, Maestro Vignati
continues to bring exceptional visibility, prestige, and new
opportunities to Opera Carolina, further strengthening the company's
position as one of the leading cultural institutions in the
Southeast.

Summer brings cultural shift to Charlotte’s Performing Arts: Opera Carolina announces New Leadership

Works
&amp; Process, a non-profit performing arts organization that
champions creative process from studio to stage so that performing
artists can create with dignity, announces the recipients of
fully-funded week-long, out-of-town creative residencies.

Each
year, Works &amp; Process produces more than 25 fully-funded creative
residencies via a network of over a dozen partner venues in seven
states. Artists and projects are curated as well as selected through
an open call. Residency support can span the entire life of a
project, from first explorations in the studio to final rehearsals
for the premiere and even touring.

A
cornerstone of its support for the creative process, in tandem with a
commitment to building collaboration across the arts ecosystem, Works
&amp; Process residencies center artists and their specific needs,
providing them with focused time and space that is critical to
develop work. Each residency supports up to eight artists for seven
days. Each artist receives an industry-leading fee of $175 per day
($1,225 per week). New this year, each lead artist will receive an
additional $1,000 fee in recognition of their administrative labor.
Residencies also include 24/7 studio access, on-site housing, a
travel stipend, and health insurance enrollment access. Awarded
residencies will take place 2026–2027 and may be used to start a
new project or continue developing an existing work.

To
date, Works &amp; Process has produced 100+ residencies that have
supported 1,000+ artists, incubating works that have been recognized
with Bessie Awards, National Dance Project grants, and toured
nationally and internationally with the U.S. State Department.&nbsp;

In
Spring 2026, professional choreographers were invited to apply for
the Open Call, capped at 300 applications, which were reviewed by a
panel comprised of Works &amp; Process staff including Caroline
Cronson, Duke Dang and Caleb Teicher, board member Virginia Johnson,
along with&nbsp;Renae Williams Niles&nbsp;and
Omari Wiles.

One
of the most important – and most sensitive – relationships in
theater is that between playwright and director. In some ways, the
entire success of a show can hinge on the shared understanding,
trust, and mutual respect between these two artists. The director and
the writer need to see the show with the same eyes; otherwise, their
collaboration won't work. This is important to establish in the
initial meetings.&nbsp;TRU's&nbsp;program will train theater
artists in the crucial skills of communication. It is led by
commercial producers, since the producer is generally the real-world
mediator in writer-director disagreements and has a better overview
of a production.
