Presidents' College Lifelong Learning at UHart, 200 Bloomfield Ave, West Hartford, CT, 06117

Join our cohort of film devotees to consider French social comedy, a genre marrying humor to social commentary. Satire is always one ingredient, but here it’s savory, not sour. Also in the mix? Social solidarity. Two films are comedies of self-absorption: that of Jean Renoir’s landed gentry and Agnes Varda’s yé-yé singer, Cleo. The second Varda film uses the director's own life’s work as social commentary, while Jean-Pierre Jeunet’s Amelie fashions a Parisian fable about loneliness.
Watch an assigned film on your own each week. Then join University of Hartford Professor Michael Walsh to learn more and discuss. The films are:
·Rules of the Game (Jean Renoir, 1939)
·Cléo From Five to Seven (Agnès Varda, 1962)
·The Gleaners and I (Agnès Varda, 2000)
·Amélie (Jean-Pierre Jeunet, 2001)
When: Mondays, October 26, November 2, 9, 16; 3–4:30 p.m.
Sponsored by President’s College Lifelong Learning at the University of Hartford. Visit Hartford.edu/pc to check this out as well as lots of other fall courses & lectures. While baseball fans are excitedly glued to the postseason, a looming shadow hangs over the horizon: could a labor dispute threaten Opening Day in the spring of 2027? Despite record-setting attendance numbers through 2025 and 2026, labor tensions are simmering, and team owners may be poised to declare a lockout to force concessions.
Join Walter Harrison, President Emeritus of the University of Hartford and former chair of the NCAA Board of Governors, for a compelling look behind the scenes of America's pastime. A die-hard baseball fan and sharp institutional observer, Harrison will break down the critical labor-management issues currently on the table that could trigger a work stoppage.
He’ll also place the current climate into historical perspective, looking back at past lockouts and strikes—including the disastrous 1994 walkout—and tracing the roots of player-owner battles all the way back to the 1890 Players League and the 1912 Federal League. Along the way, he'll revisit the pivotal legal battles fought by trailblazers like Curt Flood, Andy Messersmith, and Dave McNally, who challenged the restrictive reserve clause that governed every player contract from 1891 until its abolition in 1976.
Whether you’re a die-hard baseball aficionado or a casual fan who loves a good institutional showdown, you’ll enjoy Harrison’s sharp analysis and engaging storytelling.

Jay Day - Fall Family Festival

Jay Day is our classic fall family festival held annually at the 23-acre award-winning Jay Estate with offerings for everyone!...

Mill Street Marketplace

Haunt & Gather is back for year two!!
This is the one that leans fully into the season 😏 darker, a little witchy, and filled with pieces that feel right at home in October! You’ll find a mix of oddities, vintage, handmade work, and artists bringing work that really screams Halloween! 🎃🥹
As always, everything is curated with intention - no AI, no reseller junk, no mass produced crap. Just real work from small businesses and artists who care about what they’re creating.
There will be tattooing during the event by Yellow Pants Tattoo with flash available, plus the Taste Garden Cafe food truck and Caffeine Coven serving only the best drinks (yes, even the ones with the tiny marshmallow ghosts 👻).
The market takes place at Mill Street Marketplace, which has 80+ permanent indoor vendors, so there’s plenty to check out throughout the space while you’re there.
Also, Wethersfield in October just has a really specific feel to it. Main Street is filled with handmade scarecrows all month, and the whole town turns into a walkable fall backdrop with historic buildings, shops, and seasonal decor everywhere you look!
Feel free to come in costume & bring your Halloween spirit!! 🎃
