And the Indie Bookstore Day passport program is returning for the first time since 2019! Pick up a passport at Wakefield Books (or Charter Books or Books on the Square), and visit participating stores to collect stamps from April 18 to April 25. Return your completed passport to any one of the three hub locations on April 25 to be eligible for prizes. Grand prize is a $25 gift card to every participating store. Local Authors Joseph Dziobek and Maia Jansson Book Signing at Wakefield Books, 10am to Noon. In Like a Love Song, Joseph Dziobek sums up his feelings about living in South County, and his relationship with family, friends, his maker, nature, and the ocean. Joseph's poems are filled with the wonder of seeing deer in his meadow, of fishermen going through the channel as the sun rises over Galilee, and of discovering a piece of sea glass buried beneath the sand. Maia Jansson's beautiful illustrations bring these poems to life. To Maia, creating art is akin to breathing. Her work derives from many sources - pre-existing texts, dreams, memories, and nature, to name a few. She approaches art the same way she approached playing as a child-exploratory and whimsical. According to Maia, you can find a part of her in the illustrations throughout this wonderful book. No registration required for this in-store event.

Annie Hartnett is the award-winning author of three novels: Rabbit Cake, Unlikely Animals, and the national bestseller The Road to Tender Hearts, which won the 2025 New England Book Award for fiction and was named a best book of 2025 from NPR, LitHub, and Southern Living. Along with the writer Tessa Fontaine, she co-runs Accountability Workshops for writers, helping writers commit to routines and embrace the long, slow, joyful, terrible process of doing the work. She lives in Massachusetts with her pretty good husband, perfect daughter, and two flawless rescue dogs, Willie Nelson and Minnie Mouse. The Road To Tender Hearts is a darkly comic and warm-hearted novel about an old man on a cross-country mission to reunite with his high school crush—bringing together his adult daughter, two orphaned kids, and a cat who can predict death. Linford Fisher in Conversation with Vanessa Lillie, 6:30pm at Narragansett Library to discuss Fisher’s new book Stealing America: The Hidden Story of Indigenous Slavery in U.S. History, which not only uncovers a five-century genocidal history but also illuminates the myriad ways Native Americans have fought for their sovereignty and maintained community. Linford D. Fisher is Associate Professor of History at Brown University and a specialist in early American and Native American history. He is the author of The Indian Great Awakening: Religion and the Shaping of Native Cultures in Early America, the co-author of two edited collections on Roger Williams, and has published a dozen academic essays. He is also the Principal Investigator of a tribal collaborative database project titled Stolen Relations: Recovering Stories of Indigenous Enslavement in the Americas. Vanessa Lillie is the author of the thrillers The Bone Thief, Blood Sisters, Little Voices and For the Best. She also serves as a board member for the Tomaquag Museum in Exeter, RI. Originally from Oklahoma, Vanessa is a citizen of the Cherokee Nation. Local Author Niles Major Book Signing at Wakefield Books for his new novel, Narragansett Wild. Narragansett Wild tells the story of Rook Williams, a rich-kid sailor turned biker, a draft dodger with a sharp mind and a hunger for infamy. He hits URI and Narragansett Pier in the late 1960s chasing trouble and finds it in Jimmy Chin, a lifeguard, a leader of men, a drug smuggler with zero inhibitions, and the most popular guy in town. Inspired by true events, Narragansett Wild is a gritty, fast-moving crime saga about freedom, rebellion, and the price of chasing legend. Niles Major spent years by the water, first as a lifeguard, then as a sailor chasing wind past the edges of the map. The sea taught him to pay attention: to silence, to danger, to the signs that come before a storm. He didn’t start writing until his forties. Local Author Debra Zannelli Book Signing at Wakefield Books, 10am to noon. In Sister World: The Arrival, we are introduced to Terah, a planet in an alternate universe that is a mirror of Earth. Terah is at war, and their despotic ruler is bringing the war to Earth. The fate of Terah is in the hands of Kahill and Becarra, who brave the wormhole connecting both worlds to search for their mirrors and find a way to warn our world of the quiet invasion and help Earth fight to keep her freedom. Debra Zannelli began writing in high school, but put it aside for many years, returning to it in 1996, while recovering from surgery to remove a non-cancerous brain tumor, and completing her first book, Dark Night of The Soul. She is now the author of eight published novels, while also working as a teacher’s assistant. Inspired by both the insights, courage and resiliency of our youth, she wrote her Sister World Series with just a touch of whimsy as well as science that has been meticulously researched. Willi Ninja: Vogue Legend&nbsp;is an inspiring story of the incomparable dancer Willi Ninja, Grandfather of Vogue and star of the film Paris Is Burning. With an accessible text and dynamic illustrations, Joy Michael Ellison and Nabi H. Ali trace Willi’s path against the odds as he brings his signature moves to the dance style known as vogue and finds his spotlight at the Harlem drag balls where a performer known as Willi Ninja is born.
