The Monroe Lions Club EXTENDS the shoe drive fundraiser to THURSDAY, MAY 21, 2026, to raise funds for the TOWN OF MONROE FOOD PANTRY and the MONROE LIONS CLUB’S MASUK HIGH SCHOOL SCHOLARSHIP for graduating Masuk High School seniors. The Monroe Lions Club will earn funds based on the total weight of the pairs of gently worn, used, and new shoes collected, as Funds2Orgs will issue a check for the collected shoes. Anyone can help by donating gently worn, used and new shoes at the following locations:

·Monroe Congregational Church
·St. Peter’s Grace Episcopal Church
·Edith Wheeler Memorial Library's upstairs entrance
·Jennie’s Pizza Restaurant

"We are excited about our shoe drive," said Frank Bent, President, Monroe Lions Club. "We know that most people have extra shoes in their closets they would like to donate to us. By doing so, we raise money for the Monroe Food Pantry and for the Monroe Lions Club’s Scholarships, and we have the chance to help families in developing nations who need economic opportunities. It's a win-win for everyone.”

Join a reception to unveil “Contretemps” by famed watercolor artist Carol W. Hubbard.&nbsp;Carol W Hubbard, (1932 – 2024), Monroe, CT,&nbsp;is well-known in the watercolor circuit locally and through shipping paintings around the USA but especially awarded at North East Watercolor Society (NEWS) Kent, CT, Fairfield, Guilford, and Westport. Self-taught in many regards, she quickly gained attention with the American Watercolor Society (AWS) Traveling Show Award, New York. She was a Signature Member of AWS since 1981 and won the AWS 2023 Elsie and David Wu Ject Key Award, for her painting titled “Moo Goo Gai Pan” at age 91! Drop in. Reception to follow.

Celebrate Earth Week and America’s 250th anniversary by joining your neighbors for the Monroe CT 250 “Keeping America Beautiful” Community Clean Up Day on Saturday, April 25, 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Meeting Location: Rotary Pavilion at Wolfe Park located at 285 Cutler’s Farm Rd, Monroe, CT. This town wide volunteer event invites residents of all ages to come together, roll up their sleeves, and help refresh and beautify Monroe’s public spaces. Community members are encouraged to bring gloves, rags, and plenty of team spirit as we work side by side to honor our town, protect our environment, and celebrate our shared American heritage.The event is part of Monroe’s ongoing recognition of the upcoming 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, encouraging all residents to reflect on civic pride, stewardship, and the role each of us plays in shaping our community.
