In Collaboration with the Foxfire Village Museum &amp; Mercantile of Rabun County, GA
Looking for a memorable family outing? On Saturday, September 12, 2026, you'll find a vibrant day of living history, hands-on craft demonstrations, and family fun here at the Northeast Georgia History Center!
Throughout the day, the Foxfire Museum and Heritage Center will be in residence to demonstrate traditional Appalachian skills and regional heritage crafts. Alongside Foxfire, the Georgia Mountain Fiber Arts Guild will offer an up-close look at historic textile traditions.&nbsp;
In celebration of National Grandparents Day, NEGAHC is hosting a special morning of family activities from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM. Grandparents and grandchildren can team up to explore history firsthand through interactive crafts, historic toys and games, and guided activities built for all ages.
Combining master craft demonstrations with a celebration of family roots, this unique event builds a bridge between past and present, offering Gainesville families a memorable opportunity to learn, create, and connect together.
A portion of the proceeds from this event will support The Foxfire Village Museum &amp; Mercantile in Rabun County, GA

<h4>SURVIVING THE WILD FRONTIER: LIVE THE FOUNDING OF GEORGIA</h4>
This September, young pioneers can experience the monumental history of the February 1733 landing at Yamacraw Bluff at the History Center! This immersive and multi-sensory learning experience will tell the story of how General James Oglethorpe, Chief Tomochichi, and cultural translator Mary Musgrove forged a legendary alliance that completely transformed the wild wilderness to make international colonial history.
Throughout the day, students will have the opportunity to interact with James Oglethorpe and rotate through dynamic, hands-on “History Hubs” designed to highlight the founding of Georgia as an epic story of teamwork, survival, and intercultural diplomacy.
Can’t make it this month? October is Appalachian Folklore &amp; Hispanic Heritage Homeschool Day! Students can interact with Admiral David Farragut and explore how both Appalachian and Hispanic cultures share rich oral histories tied to the autumn harvest.

Discover the relaxing art of crochet in our Beginner Crochet Class with instructor Kathleen Holdash! Whether you’ve never held a hook or just need a refresher, Kathleen will guide you step-by-step through basic stitches and technique to get you stitching with confidence. Come unwind, learn a new craft, and take home your very own handmade creation! Class meet 4 Saturdays from 10am to 12pm: September 26th, October 3rd, October 10th, and October 17th. You will need a size G hook &amp; worsted weight yarn.

Ready to step up your knitting game? Join instructor Shari Frazier for our Sock Knitting class and learn how to craft cozy, custom hand-knit socks! This workshop is designed for knitters who already know how to knit and purl and are ready to tackle turns, heels, and toes. Bring your skills, and leave with the confidence (and technique!) to knit your new favorite pair! You will need a size 6 knitting needle and worsted weight yarn. Class meets 4 Saturdays from 10am to 12pm: January 9th, 16th, 23rd, and 30th.
