5PM - Networking Welcome Reception 6PM - PanelReliable, affordable energy is essential to economic development. Emerging economies need to expand energy systems that can support manufacturing, transportation, agriculture, cooling, and rising living standards. The choices made now about power generation, grids, and industry will shape economic opportunity and emissions for decades.
No single technology can meet every need. Solar, wind, and batteries are changing energy systems, while countries also face questions about reliability, infrastructure, financing, and environmental impacts. How can governments build systems that support growth and energy security while moving toward a low-carbon future?
Join us for a discussion about the different strategies, timelines, and tradeoffs involved. Panelists will consider how countries can finance and build reliable energy systems, how to weigh cost and environmental impacts, and whether current climate and financing approaches are helping countries meet their goals.Opening remarks: Shih-Fu Chang, Dean of Columbia Engineering Moderator: Alexis M. El Niño disrupts rainfall patterns, intensifies droughts and floods, and strains agricultural production across multiple regions. These risks are arriving alongside other pressures on food systems, including geopolitical instability, disrupted shipping and trade routes, and volatile food and energy markets. Understanding how these forces interact is essential to anticipating where vulnerabilities may emerge and how impacts can be reduced.
Jeffrey Shaman, Senior Vice Dean of the Columbia Climate School, will open with a briefing on the latest El Niño outlook. Moderated by Michael Puma, Director of Columbia University’s Center for Climate Systems Research, the panel discussion will bring together perspectives on agricultural production, global markets, humanitarian response, and food security policy. Connecting directly to COP31 Action Agenda priorities, including the transformation of agriculture and food systems, water and drought, food loss and waste, and early warning systems that protect vulnerable communities, panelists will explore how forecasts can guide decisions, strengthen preparedness, and help governments and organizations act before disruptions become food crises.

What is a child? The answer may seem obvious—until we step inside the world of alternative spiritual communities, where children may be revered as enlightened masters, treated as spiritually unformed subordinates, or embraced as equal souls in small bodies.
Drawing on years of field research, this lecture explores how new religious movements (NRMs) understand childhood, and what those understandings mean for the children who grow up within them.
These patterns come to life through case studies of twelve movements, including the Children of God, Rajneeshpuram, the Twelve Tribes, ISKCON, the Raelian Movement, MOVE, and the Order of the Solar Temple. The lecture raises broader questions: And what can these movements teach us about our own culture’s assumptions about childhood? RSVP to reserve a seat to Info@SwedLib.org.
DR. SUSAN J. PALMER is a Canadian sociologist of religion whose primary research focus is new religious movements. She is an Affiliate Professor at Concordia University in Montreal and Principal Investigator of the SSHRC-funded research project “Children in Sectarian Religions and State Control” at McGill University’s School of Religious Studies, where she is also a member of the faculty. The author of twelve books on new religious movements, her notable works include "Moon Sisters, Krishna Mothers, Rajneesh Lovers" (Syracuse, 1994), "Aliens Adored: Raël’s UFO Religion" (Rutgers, 2004), "The New Heretics of France" (Oxford, 2011), and "Storming Zion: Government Raids on Religions" (Oxford, with Stuart Wright). This Autumn Wm Bruce Lecture is sponsored by the New York New Church Legacy Fund and the Swedenborg Library Chicago.
Room 10T at 91 Claremont Ave. (Riverside Church tower) is a Gothic-inspired room with spectacular views of the Hudson River and upper Manhattan and the Bronx.

At a moment when loneliness, social isolation, and declining trust are contributing to a growing crisis of community, artificial intelligence is rapidly changing how we communicate and connect with one another. Can AI help strengthen human connection, or could it deepen the forces pulling us apart?
Pioneering AI researcher David Blei, Central Synagogue Senior Rabbi Angela Buchdahl, and technologist Jamie Metzl — author of The AI Ten Commandments — talk to constitutional scholar Noah Feldman in a wide-ranging conversation exploring one of the defining questions of our age.
Artificial intelligence is transforming our world at breathtaking speed. It promises extraordinary breakthroughs in medicine, science, education, and human creativity while raising profound questions about truth, justice, freedom, meaning, and the future of our civilization. Can these technologies help us become not only more productive, but wiser, more compassionate, and more ethical? What values should guide the creation of increasingly powerful intelligent systems, and what choices must we make today to shape the future we want? Representing wide-ranging, divergent viewpoints on this transformative technology, Blei, Buchdahl, Metzl, and Feldman gather to explore the legal, ethical, philosophical, scientific, and spiritual dimensions of how AI stands to change our world.
Can intelligent machines help us become more ethical? How should democratic societies govern increasingly powerful AI systems? Most importantly, what can we do today to ensure that AI strengthens, rather than diminishes, our communities? Join us for a timely conversation offering fresh insight into the choices that are shaping the future of humanity.
Copies of The AI Ten Commandments: A New Moral Code for Humanity by Jamie Metzl, To Be a Jew Today by Noah Feldman, and Heart of a Stranger: An Unlikely Rabbi’s Story of Faith, Identity, and Belonging by Rabbi Angela Buchdahl will be available for purchase; the authors will sign books following the program.

Vanderbilt University Chancellor Daniel Diermeier and Columbia University President Jennifer MnookinWhat does it mean to build a university community at a moment when the very idea of community feels fraught? Join Vanderbilt University Chancellor Daniel Diermeier and Columbia University President Jennifer Mnookin for a conversation about the future of campus life.
College campuses have long been places where people encounter ideas, experiences, and perspectives radically different from their own. But how can universities make those differences a meaningful part of education rather than a source of deeper division? How should institutions balance free expression and civil discourse with the responsibility to create environments in which students can learn and thrive? And as artificial intelligence transforms how we teach, study, research, and even think, what aspects of a university education become more vital to our society?
Diermeier, an internationally renowned political scientist and management scholar, has made free expression and civil discourse central to his leadership at Vanderbilt. Mnookin, a nationally recognized legal scholar who became Columbia’s 21st president in 2026, previously served as chancellor of the University of Wisconsin–Madison, where she launched major initiatives around artificial intelligence, interdisciplinary research, and intellectual pluralism and dialogue across difference.
Hear them in conversation as they explore what universities owe their students and society, how campuses can engage in respectful disagreement across differences, and what it will take to create intellectually vibrant communities for the 21st century.

Palestinian Aziz Abu Sarah and Israeli Maoz Inon forged a bond of brotherhood when the world expected them to be enemies.
Both have lost family to the conflict. Both have known the bitterness of righteous anger. But they chose a different path. Join them for a powerful conversation about their unlikely bond — and their new book, The Future is Peace.
Abu Sarah and Inon are often asked: in the face of so much loss, how can we ever find hope? Their answer is always the same. One cannot find hope. We must create it. The Future is Peace is a rebuttal to a broken world and a bold challenge to the belief that more violence can ever bring security. Told with unflinching honesty, Abu Sarah and Inon's story is proof that peace is not a naive dream, but a courageous choice — for reconciliation to heal the wounds of revenge, for partnerships to change a destiny of war, and for empathy to save us from drowning in sorrow.
In this timely conversation, moderated by TED’s Helen Walters, hear them discuss the experiences that shaped their journeys, the relationships that transformed their understanding of the "other," and how empathy can save us from drowning in sorrow. Moving beyond politics and headlines, they explore what it takes to break cycles of fear, grief, and how ordinary people can become agents of healing and change.
Expect an inspiring and challenging discussion about courage, friendship, and the possibility of building a future rooted not in victory over one another, but in a shared commitment to peace.
After the talk, both Aziz and Maoz will be signing copies of their book, The Future is Peace.

This is a carousel that never stops turning — a rotating cast of world-class musicians playing original compositions alongside daring reinventions of Soul, Jazz, Rock, Funk, and RnB classics you thought you knew.

Descend into New York's coolest speakeasy, where the walls hum and the night ignites. On Misha's Birthday every note carries a little more passion. Every interpretation lands a little brighter. The strings hold their bend a breath longer, the bass sinks deeper into the pocket, the horns come in bold, and the songs feel vivid again, like old favorites with the saturation turned up.

Daddy Rabbit isn't a show — it's a living, breathing organism of sound. Classically trained pianists trade fire with bassists who groove like it's gospel. Horn players wail beside jazz singers who whisper and roar in the same breath. MCs spit truth while beatboxers conjure entire rhythm sections from nothing but air and instinct.

Come hungry for something you can't name yet. Leave changed.

This is Daddy Rabbit. Get in before the door closes. It's a show where you can literally stand with the band.

Doors at 7pm. Show at 8pm. All tickets come with seats and table service.

Light & Darkness Elaine Hagenberg: Illuminare Ralph Vaughan Williams: Dona Nobis Pacem Saint Andrew Chorale & Orchestra Katherine Wessinger, soprano; Rod Gomez, baritone Andrew Henderson, conductor
The Saint Andrew Chorale opens its 62nd season with two glorious choral works of the 20th and 21st Centuries. Hagenberg’s Illuminare has quickly gained a place in the modern choral repertoire, set to a compilation of sacred and poetic text in Latin and English, the piece draws on themes of light overcoming darkness. Vaughan Williams’s Dona Nobis Pacem (“Grant us peace”) is a profound plea for peace in a troubled world, setting texts from the Latin Mass alongside poetry by Walt Whitman reflecting on the horrors of war and the hope for reconciliation.

How Can I Stop MCA Collections in New York?

If merchant cash advance payments are draining payroll, rent, and operating cash, an attorney may evaluate:

Frozen business bank accounts: Review bank restraints, levies, and potential challenges.

MCA lawsuit defense: Respond to summonses, complaints, judgments, and collection actions.

MCA debt settlement: Explore negotiated balances and repayment arrangements.

Daily ACH withdrawals: Examine payment authorizations, disputed debits, and applicable banking rules.

Stacked MCA agreements: Review multiple funders, reconciliation provisions, and personal guarantees.

UCC liens and judgments: Evaluate security interests, enforcement procedures, and possible defenses.

Stopping ACH withdrawals does not automatically eliminate MCA debt or prevent litigation.
