Something Grand is coming to Wallingford!

Rose Valley Chorus and Orchestra, a musical theater company, will present The Grand Duke or The Statutory Duel, the final collaboration between comedic-opera legends Gilbert and Sullivan opening October 31, 2026.

Gilbert and Sullivan’s The Grand Duke or the Statutory Duel is filled with humor, lively music, surprising twists and plenty of confusion. This rarely performed comedy gives audiences a chance to enjoy one of the famous duo’s lesser-known shows. Rose Valley Chorus and Orchestra brings together talented local singers, actors, and musicians to delight audiences with this entertaining production.

In Gilbert and Sullivan's ultimate collaboration, a troupe of actors conspires to overthrow the unpopular and miserly Grand Duke. Things go awry when their plot is accidentally revealed, prompting a series of disputes and political successions settled by "statutory" duel—an ingenious law that renders the legal death of the adversary who draws the lowest from a deck of cards. Hilarious entanglements, including thwarted marriages and questionable legal contracts, imbue this topsy-turvy comic opera with a wit and charm that only Gilbert and Sullivan can contrive. Never fear, a lawyer solves the problem and all ends happily.

All performances are at Strath Haven Middle School, 200 S. Providence Road, Wallingford, PA 19086. This run includes two matinees on Saturdays, October 31 and November 7 at2 p.m. and one Saturday evening performance November 7 at 7:30 p.m.; Sundays, November 1 and November 8 at 2 p.m.; and Wednesday, November 4 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are general admission and good for any performance. Online tickets can be purchased at http://www.rvco.org/. Cash, checks, and online payments are also available at the door.

Honoring the Man. Empowering the Mission.
Some people talk about community. Patrick Burns has spent a lifetime feeding it.
As the owner of multiple grocery stores across the Philadelphia region, Pat has understood something that few do — that access to food is not simply a convenience. It is dignity. It is stability. It is the foundation that everything else in a person’s life is built upon. For decades, Pat has shown up for neighborhoods that needed someone to believe in them, creating jobs, providing access, and investing in people long before it was celebrated.
That is exactly why we are honoring him.
An Evening Honoring Patrick Burns will bring together the friends, colleagues, and community leaders who know Pat best — and the Siloam Wellness supporters who share his belief that people deserve more than survival. They deserve to thrive.
For nearly 30 years, Siloam has walked alongside Philadelphians navigating trauma, isolation, and instability — including one of the most urgent challenges facing our neighbors today: food insecurity. Because at Siloam, we know that an empty pantry is never just an empty pantry. It is anxiety. It is impossible choices. It is the quiet crisis of a basic human need going unmet. We respond to that experience as trauma — and we respond to the whole person.
Pat Burns has spent his life making sure people have what they need to get started. Pat also makes sure that Siloam has what they need to heal and keep going.
This evening is where those two missions meet. wearesiloam.org/
Honor the man. Invest in the mission he believes in.
