Snacks and non-alcoholic beverages are provided, as well as a ticket for one free beer or glass of wine.
Tabletop games mean anything from card games to dice games, board games to strategy games.&nbsp;You are welcome to bring a game and play, learn a new game, borrow a game from our collection to take home — or just observe!

Babysitters have the responsibility of caring for children and making important decisions while they are in charge. Parents entrust their child to the babysitter; therefore, it is crucial they know the basics of child care.
In this Introduction to Babysitting Course, participants will learn interviewing tips, communication skills, ages and stages of&nbsp;young babies and toddlers, safety and first aid tips, and&nbsp;feeding and caring for children, including diaper changing.
A simple test will be administered after the course and certificates of completion will be distributed.
Participants are asked to bring something to write with and a notebook or paper to write on. There will be a break midway through, so participants are welcome to bring a snack to eat during that time.

Students entering Grades 1-6 are invited to the Ridgefield Library on Monday, July 13th at 2:00 pm to meet Ginger Smith, founder of SOAR Together, to plant the seeds of social connection!&nbsp; <a href="https://ridgefieldlibrary.librarymarket.com/event/flower-power-soar-146161" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">Please register</a>.
We’ll learn how flowers spark engagement and combat loneliness, while also learning about SOAR’s commitment to creating an environmentally responsible Flower Rescue Program model.&nbsp; Students will have a chance to decorate cups, create special notes, and craft their own floral arrangements to spread joy.

The Hickories

Have you ever wondered how a seed becomes a plant? Students entering grades 4-6 in Fall 2026 are invited to&nbsp;<a href="https://www.thehickories.org/" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">The Hickories</a> for a special hands-on learning experience that explores the life cycle of a plant and the wide assortment of seeds that exist in the world. We will observe and sort a variety of seeds and learn about germination and how seeds are collected, cleaned and stored. Each participant will sow some native wildflower seeds to take home with them!

We welcome <a href="https://www.artscapades.org/" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">ArtScapades</a> back to the Ridgefield Library on Tuesday, July 14th at 6:30 pm for a lecture that looks at paintings of gardens, trees, and flowers, which can represent the beginning of life, symbolize love and passion - and perhaps most fundamentally, relay a space of comfort and hope.
With a focus on Impressionism, ArtScapades will look at how gardens and flowers played an important role in the works of artists throughout history. This lecture will touch on works by Hieronymus Bosch, Gustav Klimt, Wassily Kandinsky and Henri Rousseau and then look more closely at how flowers and gardens were captured in the works of Claude Monet, Auguste Renoir, Mary Cassatt and Vincent van Gogh.
Robin Hoffman and Jodi Stiffelman, of ArtScapades, began teaching art appreciation in 1998. They have presented at libraries, art centers, and museums in Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts, and Florida.

Teens:&nbsp; Looking for fun volunteer opportunities this summer?&nbsp; Join the Ridgefield Library’s Clean Up Club on Thursday, July 16th, and help tidy up Ridgefield’s Ballard Park!&nbsp; &nbsp;<a href="https://ridgefieldlibrary.librarymarket.com/event/volunteer-clean-club-145178" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">Please register.</a>
Meet up in front of the Ridgefield Library at 4:00 pm and go across the street to Ballard Park to clean up any trash, dropped items, etc. We will provide trash bags and gloves. Teens will get volunteer hours for attending this program.
Please wear closed-toed shoes and, if it is sunny, sunscreen and a hat. We also encourage you to bring a water bottle.

On Monday, July 13, 2026 Humanists and Freethinkers of Fairfield County (HFFC) will feature Connecticut Poet Laureate Antoinette Brim-Bell in conversation about the power of poetry. &nbsp;Poets capture the soul of society, preserving what the historical record alone cannot. &nbsp;Poetry can curate voices and histories often underrepresented, thereby challenging our understanding of our common histories, enriching our understanding of the complexities of race, culture, and identity, and evoking empathy. Ultimately, poetry is both a literary exploration of an era and a conversation with its historical foundation.

Antoinette Brim-Bell (Antoinette Brim) has been Connecticut’s 8th State Poet Laureate since 2023. &nbsp;She is the author of three full-length poetry collections, most recently These Women You Gave Me, which was the inspiration for the ballet In Her Image (performed on the Alvin Ailey stage). &nbsp;Her poetry has appeared broadly, including in Poetry Magazine and Poem-a-Day. She was nominated for the Pushcart Prize in both poetry and essay. &nbsp;A sought-after voice, she is a Professor of English at CT State Community College, Capital, in Hartford.

Gourmet pizza and refreshments will be served from 6:15-7:00 PM.&nbsp;The presentation will start at 7:00. &nbsp;We will also be recording and broadcasting this meeting virtually via Zoom for anyone who is unable to join us in person; check in is at 6:45.&nbsp;

The Glass House

Enjoy a summer evening exploring The Glass House at your own pace! During your&nbsp;self-guided visit&nbsp;to the campus, you will have free access to the&nbsp;Glass House, Brick House, Painting Gallery, and Sculpture Gallery.
On view this year in the Painting Gallery&nbsp;is&nbsp;Tomashi Jackson and Robert Rauschenberg: The Catch One. Featuring newly commissioned paintings by Jackson in dialogue with works by Rauschenberg from the historic site’s permanent collection and the Robert Rauschenberg Foundation, the exhibition contributes to a global slate of 2025–26 initiatives that reexamine Rauschenberg’s legacy, honoring his expansive creativity, spirit of curiosity, and commitment to change.
In the Sculpture Gallery,&nbsp;encounter&nbsp;the large-scale works by artists including John Chamberlain, Bruce Nauman, and Frank Stella that were collected by Philip Johnson and David Whitney.
Our expert educators will be available across the site to provide information and answer questions.
