The Health Museum

The Health Museum, an interactive health science museum located in the heart of the Houston Museum District, will debut their newest exhibition&nbsp;The Fatherhood Effect&nbsp;as part of the Healing Arts Program at a preview party on Friday,&nbsp;August 14, 2026,&nbsp;from 6-8 p.m. Six awards will be presented during the reception at 7 p.m.
The exhibition will open to the public on Saturday, August 15, 2026, and will remain on display at The Health Museum until January 27, 2027.
Through an open call for art, The Health Museum received powerful submissions of visual art&nbsp;that&nbsp;positioned fatherhood as a public health approach to healthier living. By elevating local stories and lived experiences, the exhibition invited reflection on how fatherhood has evolved over the past three decades—and how meaningful, engaged fatherhood contributes to healthier children, stronger families, and more connected communities.
Through the arts and public health perspective,&nbsp;The Fatherhood Effect&nbsp;highlights fathers as present, nurturing, and deeply involved in caregiving. The exhibition challenges outdated stereotypes that define fathers solely as providers, and instead emphasizes care, emotional connection, and shared responsibility as essential elements of fatherhood.
The artwork selection was juried by community leaders and fathers including Houston City Council Member District I&nbsp;Joaquin Martinez, Director of Harris County Boards and Commissions&nbsp;Daniel Santamaria, Director of Community Engagement for the Alzheimer’s Association&nbsp;Jorge Olvera, Founder and CEO of The Color of Coffee Collective&nbsp;Keith Hawkins, and Founder and Director of CoolxDad&nbsp;Kevin Barnett.
Tickets for the exhibit preview reception on August 14, 2026, are available at&nbsp;<a href="https://3586.blackbaudhosting.com/3586/Fatherhood-Effect-Preview-Reception" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">3586.blackbaudhosting.com/3586/Fatherhood-Effect-Preview-Reception</a>&nbsp;and are $10 for Museum members and $20 for non-members. All tickets include live music, light bites, beverages, and free parking in the Museum’s surface lot. Doors open at 6pm and the awards will be announced at 7pm.
The Healing Arts Program was launched in 2024 with a gallery opening for “Healing Hands: A Collection of Caregiver Expressions on Mental Wellness” and was created to&nbsp;explore the intersections of art, medicine, and culture, and provide the community with an outlet for processing experiences relating to physical and mental health.
Through workshops, exhibitions, and community engagement, the program has increased the museum’s capacity for connection and healing in the Houston community.
The Healing Arts Program focuses on connection, creativity, critical thinking, and compassionate dialogue, through a lens that healthier communities can be built through collaboration between individuals, educators, artists, and healthcare professionals.

Bayou City Art Festival Memorial Park on Friday-Sunday, October 9-11, 2026 from 10 a.m.-6 p.m.&nbsp;The outdoor gallery will take over Memorial Park offering patrons the opportunity to meet artists, view original works, and purchase one-of-a-kind art, world-class paintings, prints, jewelry, sculptures, functional art, and more.
The three-day festival will feature live entertainment stages, a food truck park, and beverage stations throughout the festival. Guests will enjoy Houston’s iconic Memorial Park while enjoying the festival’s wine and craft beer garden.
For the ultimate art lover, Bayou City Art Festival will offer a limited availability VIP Hospitality Lounge, which will include complimentary light bites, beer, wine, and other refreshments. The relaxing setting under a canopy of trees will feature roaming musicians, artistic décor, and more. VIPs will receive access from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. to the VIP area, and VIP parking.

IM Houston (IM) will celebrate dialogue, collaboration and service at its annual&nbsp;Tapestry Gala&nbsp;on&nbsp;Saturday, November 14, 2026, at&nbsp;6 p.m.&nbsp;at the&nbsp;Hilton Americas – Houston.&nbsp;
The theme of this year's event&nbsp;"Timeless Threads"&nbsp;honors the enduring connections woven through more than 60 years of IM Houston’s service to the community. It reflects the relationships forged across faiths and cultures, the work that continues today, and the lasting legacy carried forward for future generations.
KTRK ABC13 Anchor&nbsp;Gina Gaston&nbsp;will serve as Master of Ceremonies for the evening, which will recognize&nbsp;Linh and Fred G. Marshall&nbsp;with the 2026 Tapestry Award—the organization’s highest philanthropic honor. For more than a decade, the Marshalls have championed IM Houston’s mission through their generosity, volunteer leadership, and steadfast belief that civic engagement is essential to building a thriving community. Their dedication exemplifies the spirit and values at the heart of IM Houston’s work.
The evening will also honor the&nbsp;William A. Lawson Institute for Peace and Prosperity&nbsp;(WALIPP) with the 2026 Spirit of Respect Award. The late&nbsp;Reverend William A. Lawson, founding pastor of Wheeler Avenue Baptist Church, was one of Houston’s original “Three Amigos,” the informal name given to the trio of faith leaders who stood together for decades in pursuit of civil rights, social justice, and human dignity.
The Three Amigos—Reverend Lawson, Archbishop Joseph Fiorenza, and Rabbi Samuel Karff—were not only pillars of Houston’s civic life, but also foundational partners in the vision that became IM Houston. The Spirit of Respect Award honors individuals and organizations whose lives embody those enduring values. In recognizing WALIPP and the Lawson family, IM Houston pays tribute to the very foundation upon which the organization was built.
The award will be accepted on behalf of WALIPP by Reverend Lawson’s daughters:&nbsp;Melanie Lawson, Cheryl Lawson, and Roxanne Lawson.
Longtime IM Houston supporters and board members&nbsp;Shirin and Saied Alavi&nbsp;will serve as Event Chairs, joining IM President and CEO&nbsp;Sheroo Mukhtiar&nbsp;and Board Chair&nbsp;Henry Florsheim&nbsp;in welcoming guests to an inspiring evening celebrating the organization’s mission and impact.
