One of the most significant steps we can take to reduce waste in our trash bins is to compost our food scraps. Removing food waste lowers the weight and amount of trash hauled to landfills and incinerators in and out of state.  The Farmington Green Efforts Committee, in partnership with the Farmington Library, invite you to learn the how’s and why’s of composting. For centuries, farmers have used compost to fertilize and improve the health of their fields. Transforming food waste to compost saves on buying soil enrichments that are trucked from afar in plastic bags and require purchasing.
Come discover how food scraps can be turned into a free amendment to enrich your garden soil.
Our presenter, Mr. Bob Lavorgna, is a UConn advanced master gardener and master composter. He will speak on what compost is and how the practice helps the environment and the garden. He’ll share tips and methods of composting to suit your needs including the pros and cons of backyard piles, bins, tumblers and vermiposting (letting worms do the work).  He will also fill us in on what some communities are doing for town-wide composting programs. Please join us to learn how we can make Farmington greener, one household at a time.

Darn it—don’t throw it away! Give your favorite clothes a second life in this hands-on mending workshop led by Bristol, Connecticut instructor Dawn, also known as The Stitching Coach. This practical 90-minute program will empower you with the skills needed to repair and extend the life of your garments.
Participants will learn foundational hand-sewing techniques, including hemming, sewing on buttons, basic patching, and simple clothing repairs that can be done at home. The workshop is designed with beginners in mind—no prior sewing experience is required—and focuses on building confidence through clear instruction and guided practice.
Patrons are encouraged to bring at least one clean woven garment (please note: no knit fabrics) to work on during the session. All instruction will be hands-on, with opportunities to ask questions and receive individual guidance. This program is ideal for anyone interested in sustainable fashion, saving money, or learning a useful life skill in a supportive and relaxed environment.

Join us for the final lecture in our To Form A More Perfect Union series as we host Andy Horowitz, Associate Professor at UCONN and Connecticut State Historian, as he explores the relevance of the American Revolution for Connecticut today and the 250th anniversary as a moment in our political lives. This event will be held at Farmington Library.

Guest Speaker Chelsey Hahn from the CT Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) will provide an overview of recycling in CT, explain "wish-cycling", discuss ideas to reduce household waste and more. Where Riding Begins with Partnership 
Our lessons are rooted in kindness, confidence, and connection. Our students learn to groom, tack up, &amp; riding, but they also learn to listen to the horse, to communicate with the horse, and grow alongside the horse. We believe horsemanship should honor the horse as a partner, not a tool &mdash; and that when horses feel respected, riders learn more deeply and more beautifully. 
We currently have limited riding lesson on Saturdays and weekday afternoons.
