In this beautifully crafted and often hilarious debut novel, thirty-seven-year-old Layla Moody must navigate the coronavirus pandemic lockdown while finding family on her own terms.
It's January of 2020 and thirty-seven-year-old Layla Moody is trying to worm her way into a party at the Sundance Film Festival. When she’s not picking up other people’s abandoned drinks or skinny-dipping in the hot tub, she’s trying to gain access to someone who can jump-start her stymied career as a Hollywood television writer. After a run-in with one of her creative heroines, she lands an opportunity to get her show produced. The only catch is, she has to return to New York, which she’s been avoiding since her father’s death.
But soon all is thwarted when COVID-19 shuts down the entertainment industry and any opportunity to propel her life forward. While quarantining alone in her parents’ apartment in Queens, she wrestles with the ghost of an ex-boyfriend who disappeared unexpectedly, the grief of processing the loss of her father, and the notion that she just might be the one responsible for her current state of solitude.
Finally, in spite of warnings and stay-at-home orders, she throws caution to the wind and joins a share house on Fire Island where she spent summers in her twenties. By returning to the house and its eclectic denizens, she is reintroduced to the comfort and annoying tendencies of other people, and begins to grasp how to find family on her own terms.

A frantic mother tells cops her kids have vanished in broad daylight from outside a suburban Long Island market on Halloween. Inspired by one of the oldest unsolved missing child cases in U.S. history [the 1955 disappearance of Steven Damman] and other worldwide missing child cases like it, For Nothing Is Hidden is a cautionary tale spanning more than 50 years -- from the initial disappearance of little Bobby Goodson to its impact on the already tenuous marriage of his small-town, middle America-raised parents en route to the unlikeliest of resolutions decades later. You'll think you'll know it all from the start. Truth is, you won't.
John A. Valenti 3rd is a veteran national award-winning journalist for the Long Island, New York-based Newsday, and a critically acclaimed author [Swee'pea, The Story of Lloyd Daniels and Other Playground Legends; Atria Books, Simon & Schuster] and poet [13 Poets from Long Island; Bushwickborn Productions, Inc. / Pope Brothers Ink] who has appeared on hundreds of TV and radio shows, including NPR and Good Morning America. He also is featured in the Emmy Award-winning ESPN 30-for-30 episode Big Shot, which delves into his national award-winning reporting on John Spano and his fraudulent attempt to buy the NHL New York Islanders.
Valenti’s decades of insightful, in-depth reporting shine through as this novel explores the often-untold strains of a criminal investigation, peeling back layers on the marriage of Driscoll and Colleen Goodson as police and the media pore through the smallest details of their lives in an attempt to find their missing son. Valenti ties in real crimes of the day -- the so-called "Shooting of the Century" killing of millionaire William Woodward Jr. by his socialite wife Ann; the famed "Boy in the Box" mystery -- in a seamless weave of events that blur the line between fact and fiction in this literary, historic crime novel. For Nothing Is Hidden is John's debut novel.

In Watch How You Go: Jewish Wisdom for Your Journey Ahead, Rabbi Rachel Ain draws on Jewish tradition, more than two decades in the rabbinate, and her experiences as a mother, wife, daughter, and communal leader to explore what it means to live a meaningful Jewish life today.

Written first as a message to her sons as they begin making their own way in the world, the book opens into a wider conversation about the questions that shape all of our lives: How do we balance family, work, faith, and responsibility? How do we hold on to belief when life is difficult? What does it mean to belong to the Jewish people? How can tradition help us respond to uncertainty, disagreement, antisemitism, and a changing world?

Through personal stories, Jewish texts, and reflections on contemporary life, Rabbi Ain explores family, prayer, Shabbat and Jewish time, God and doubt, Israel and Jewish peoplehood, compassion, community, leadership, and the responsibility to make a difference. Her approach is rooted in tradition while remaining open to questioning, growth, and the realities of modern life.

The evening's conversation will be moderated by Rebecca Sassouni, a frequent moderator at the library. An attorney, Rebecca currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Nassau County Bar Association, where she co-chairs the Women in Law and Student Mentorship committees. Sassouni is an active Advisory member of Long Island's Jewish Community Relations Council and the Great Neck Mayors' Coalition for Unity. Rebecca is a Past President of the Boards of Education and of SHAI, which she still serves as a Vice President.

The thrilling, true story of a prolific criminal’s many identities and exploits.
On the morning of July 3, 1915, John Pierpont Morgan Jr., one of the most famous names in finance, was entertaining guests at his sprawling Long Island estate when the doorbell unexpectedly rang. An armed man forced his way inside. At the same time, authorities in Washington, DC, were investigating a shocking bombing at the US Capitol. While no one had been killed, the blast had destroyed the reception room, and DC citizens were on edge.
Nine years earlier, in 1906, Leone Krembs Muenter had fallen ill and died shortly after giving birth. Her husband, Harvard professor Erich Muenter, blamed his wife’s Christian Science religious beliefs, which prohibited medical intervention, for the death, but an investigation suggested something more sinister: arsenic poisoning. As suspicions mounted, Muenter vanished.
In Texas, a mysterious man calling himself Frank Holt wooed Leona Sensabaugh, and after their marriage, they moved to Ithaca, New York, as he pursued a career at Cornell. But some of Holt’s colleagues found he reminded them of someone they’d worked with before, a man who had been suspected of murdering his wife. Could Frank Holt and Erich Muenter be the same person? What were they to make of it, later, when they saw a familiar face in the papers following a bizarre attempt on a finance tycoon’s life?
The Man Who Shot J. P. Morgan: A Life of Arsenic, Anarchy and Intrigue (Kent State University Press) is a riveting tale of false identities, radical political beliefs, and ambitious criminal schemes set during the tumultuous time shortly before the United States entered World War I.
Mary Noé is a lawyer, author and lecturer and holds the rank of Professor at St. John’s University. After graduating high school, she worked in a typing pool at the New York office of the FBI. Several secretarial jobs later and after obtaining her Class 2 license, she applied to Varsity Transit for a position as a bus driver for New York City Schools. The New York City Human Rights Division brought an action on her behalf against Varsity. She was the only female driver among the 700 male drivers working from Varsity’s Brooklyn location.
Mary is a graduate of Brooklyn College magna cum laude and St. John’s University School of Law. She has served as an administrative law judge for the New York State Office of Professional Medical Conduct and an Impartial Hearing Officer under a federal law known as Individuals with Disabilities Education Act or IDEA.
She has appeared on numerous podcasts discussing the book (Fox True Crime Podcast, Untapped New York, Most Notorious), libraries, Osher Life Long Learning Institutes around the country. Her recent article "Murder at Madison Square Garden" was published in Judicial Notice, the journal of the Historical Society of the New York Courts. She is also the author of IEP Workshop (Attainment Press 2013).

The Jay Heritage Center (JHC) is a dynamic nonprofit which manages the Jay Estate in Rye, New York. The 23-acre park that they have preserved and interpreted since 1992 is an award-winning culture hub and wildlife refuge on Long Island Sound. Located in the heart of Westchester’s only National Historic Landmark District, the site welcomes visitors April through November to learn about our nation’s flawed yet precious democracy through indoor and outdoor public programs. Offerings about American History feature prominent writers and educators. Free horticulture and birding workshops teach guests about native plants and wildlife. Family-friendly concerts draw hundreds for old-fashioned fun and unplugged enjoyment. The site is a member of NY State's Path Through History and Westchester County's African American Heritage Trail.
