I-495 Ramp Closures To Impact Drivers Near Falls Church

FALLS CHURCH, VA — Drivers traveling around the Capital Beltway near Falls Church will face a series of overnight ramp closures and detours beginning Monday night as crews conduct paving work.

The Virginia Department of Transportation said the southbound Gallows Road ramp to southbound Interstate 495 will close nightly Monday, Sept. 21, through Friday, Sept. 25, weather permitting.

Additional ramp closures are scheduled at the I-495 interchange with Route 50, also known as Arlington Boulevard, and Fairview Park Drive on Sept. 22, Sept. 23, Sept. 27 and Sept. 28.

The closures are scheduled from 11 p.m. until 4 a.m. each night.

Ramp Closures And Detours

The southbound Gallows Road ramp to southbound I-495 will close:

• 11 p.m. Monday, Sept. 21, to 4 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 22
• 11 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 22, to 4 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 23
• 11 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 23, to 4 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 24
• 11 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 24, to 4 a.m. Friday, Sept. 25
• 11 p.m. Friday, Sept. 25, to 4 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 26

VDOT will detour traffic south on Gallows Road to the traffic signal at the 495 Express Lanes, where drivers can make a U-turn onto northbound Gallows Road and return to southbound I-495.

The southbound Fairview Park Drive ramp to northbound I-495 will close from 11 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 22, to 4 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 23, and again from 11 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 27, to 4 a.m. Monday, Sept. 28.

Drivers will be directed from Fairview Park Drive to westbound Route 50, then toward Gallows Road before looping back onto eastbound Route 50 and northbound I-495.

The westbound Route 50 ramp to northbound I-495 will close from 11 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 23, to 4 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 24, and from 11 p.m. Monday, Sept. 28, to 4 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 29.

Traffic will be directed onto southbound I-495, then to Exit 51 for northbound Gallows Road before returning to eastbound Route 50 and northbound I-495.

VDOT is asking motorists to follow posted detour signs and allow additional travel time through the work zones.
