44-Year-Old Man Identified As Pedestrian Killed In Springfield Hit-And-Run

Police have identified the man killed in a hit-and-run crash Sunday night.

SPRINGFIELD, VA – Fairfax County police have identified the pedestrian killed in a hit-and-run crash on Sunday night as Thomas Gum, 44.

According to the Fairfax County Police Department, Gum was walking from north to south across Old Keene Mill Road toward Backlick Road shortly before 8:20 p.m. when he was hit by a white SUV traveling eastbound in the right lane of Old Keene Mill Road.

Gum, who does not have a known permanent address, was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Fairfax County police say Gum was not in a crosswalk when he was struck.

The driver of the SUV did not stop. Fairfax police are asking anyone with information about the crash to contact the department's Crash Reconstruction Unit at (703) 280-0543 or to submit a tip anonymously through Crime Solvers of Fairfax County here.
