160 Workers To Lose Jobs After Dining Company Loses Carthage College Contract

Parkhurst Dining says its contract with Carthage College is ending, triggering a permanent shutdown at the Kenosha campus.

KENOSHA, WI — A dining company that serves Carthage College will permanently shut down its operations on the Kenosha campus this summer, leading to the layoffs of 160 workers, according to a WARN notice filed with Wisconsin officials.

Parkhurst Dining, LLC, told the state that it will cease all operations at its Carthage College site, located at 2001 Alford Park Dr., on July 3.

The company said the closure is connected to the termination of its contract with Carthage College. Parkhurst said it first learned April 27 that its contract was ending and is providing "as much notice as reasonably possible."

The layoffs are expected to happen between May 21 and May 27, or June 3, according to the notice. Some management-level positions have a separation window running from May 25 through July 3.

Parkhurst said all affected employees have been notified that their separations will be permanent. The company also said employees will not have bumping rights, meaning they cannot displace more junior employees from their jobs.
