Shorewood Makes AARP's 'Age Friendly List'
Shorewood is the first municipality in Wisconsin to make AARP's Age-Friendly Community list - We call it a "silver medal" for Shorewood!

SHOREWOOD, WI β Some communities across the country go above and beyond to be great places for people of all ages to live. Thatβs according to AARP, which released a list of towns and counties across the country that have made the commitment to be βage-friendly.β
And for the first time, Wisconsin has one community on the list: Shorewood, Wis.
"We are honored to be the first community in Wisconsin to receive AARP's Age-Friendly Designation,β said Shorewood Village President Guy Johnson in a North Shore NOW report published today. βIt's a testament to our Senior Resource Center, the Shorewood Connects project, and all the other areas of our village that touch the lives of our seniors, be it our businesses, the library and the rest of our truly inter-generational community."

Communities that seek membership must undergo an improvement process that includes creating and implementing an βage-friendly action plan.β The process requires communities to complete a membership process and submit a letter of commitment. A planning phase then begins during which communities are asked to assess their needs before starting to put their age-friendly improvement plans into action.
The network of age-friendly communities was launched by AARP in 2012. It operates under the World Health Organizationβs Age-Friendly Cities and Communities Program.
