We believe the recall effort is misguided.

We are writing to clarify the position of Affordable Shorewood regarding the recent trustee recall effort. We believe this effort is misguided.

Have five trustees disregarded the law? In our view, yes. By voting to advance the sale of the parking lot, we believe they have violated the Public Purpose Doctrine. However, we do not believe this issue alone rises to the level necessary to justify a recall.

Recall efforts are inherently divisive and should require a high level of community consensus. We hope the trustees recognize that their actions have led some community members to pursue more aggressive measures. This is unusual for our Village.

Affordable Shorewood will continue its efforts to prevent the sale of the parking lot. It's important to reinforce we support affordable housing development that takes a balanced approach to public benefits, neighborhoods, village finances, and housing needs.
