Former coach, UNA Hall of Famer dies (franklincountytimes.com) — Florence and the Shoals community are mourning James “Buddy” Moore, a 2012 UNA Athletics Hall of Fame inductee and longtime Coffee High School coach and principal, who has died at 93. The Sheffield native also rose to major general in the Alabama National Guard and later served the area through the Red Cross.
   

2. Florence man arrested after stolen vehicle chase ends in crash (whnt.com) — A Florence man faces multiple charges after deputies say he fled in a reportedly stolen Cadillac Escalade and crashed near North Pine Street following a chase along Florence Boulevard and Veterans Drive. Lauderdale County authorities report no injuries but list numerous traffic and theft charges, with bond set at $33,600.
   

3. Search underway for missing Tennessee man last seen near body of water in Lauderdale County (waff.com) — Local crews, including the Florence Dive Team, are searching waters off County Road 94 in Lauderdale County for 48‑year‑old Marcus DeWeese of Tennessee, last seen near a body of water. Deputies urge anyone who has seen him or knows his whereabouts to call 911 or the Lauderdale County Sheriff’s Office immediately.
   

4. Bonnie Sue Acree, age 70, of Russell Springs (lakercountry.com) — Florence readers may recognize Richard and Laura Edmonds, who are listed among the surviving siblings of 70-year-old Bonnie Sue Acree of Russell Springs, Kentucky. Acree, a longtime dietary assistant and church member, passed away June 9, with funeral services set for Sunday, June 14, at New Victory Baptist Church in Russell Springs.
