• Russell County jury convicts Alabama man in 2022 murder (wsfa.com) — A Russell County jury has found Jason Cole guilty of murdering his girlfriend, whose body Phenix City officers discovered along Cutrate Road in 2022. Authorities say she died from strangulation and blunt force head trauma, and Cole was also convicted of abuse of a corpse. The case highlights prior domestic violence concerns raised by the victim’s family and coworkers. 
• Father went to pick up baby at Phenix City apartment. Here's the verdict for dad's murder (ledger-enquirer.com) — A Russell County jury has convicted a man of murder in the 2022 shooting death of Derante Person at the Frederick Douglass Apartments in Phenix City. Prosecutors say Person was shot while arriving to pick up his child, and the defendant was also found guilty of menacing two others. Sentencing in Russell County court will be scheduled later.
• Alabama Power hosts lineman career day for high school seniors (wtvm.com) — High school seniors from eight schools visited Alabama Power’s Phenix City headquarters for a hands-on Lineman Career Day, learning directly from working linemen about the job’s demands and rewards. The company says the event is successfully feeding its training pipeline, with at least one recent attendee now working full-time as a lineman.
