Investigators say the 18-year-old suspect was taken into custody in Beauregard and is being held without bail pending a hearing, while authorities continue seeking tips from anyone with information about the case.

• Gray presents regional violence prevention initiative to Opelika council (opelikaobserver.com) — Phenix City is part of a new East Alabama violence-prevention effort that aims to coordinate law enforcement, schools, and community groups across multiple counties. The initiative, outlined to Opelika’s council, would train at least 50 local residents in conflict resolution, launch youth-focused ECHO curriculum programs, and build a regional “street team” to intervene before disputes escalate into shootings.
