• NOAA hydrographic surveys are underway around Kodiak (kmxt.org) — NOAA is mapping Alitak Bay, right by Akhiok, to update seafloor charts and improve safety for local fishing boats, ferries, and cruise ships. Crews have already surveyed Izhut Bay and the Kodiak seamount, and another ship will work Alitak in August, with new public charts expected within a year.
