The MMHOP zoning overlay would allow more townhomes and multiplexes, aiming to ease housing costs while raising questions about parking, neighborhood character, and how to keep young people living in Anchorage.
   

2. Dick Traini dies at 77, remembered as longest serving member on Anchorage assembly (mustreadalaska.com) — Anchorage is mourning former Assembly member Dick Traini, who died at 77 after 19 years representing Midtown and serving five terms as Assembly chair. Current Assembly leaders are urging residents to remember his decades of public service, and his family is inviting the community to a memorial service on September 19 at 4 p.m.

Alaska educators share 9/11 experiences with a younger generation on 25th anniversary (adn.com) — In Anchorage classrooms and at the University of Alaska Anchorage, educators are helping students who weren't born in 2001 understand the impact of 9/11 through personal stories and discussion. From a fifth grade teacher at Chinook Elementary to a UAA history professor, they're connecting national history to local experiences, emotions, and ongoing changes in security and privacy.
   

4. U17s Drop Opening Game in Anchorage (usahockeyntdp.com) — Anchorage hockey fans saw the hometown Wolverines shut out USA Hockey's Under-17 national team 4-0 at George M. Sullivan Arena, powered by a 35-save performance from goalie Maverick Avent. The teams meet again late Saturday night, giving local fans another chance to watch top junior talent on Anchorage ice.
   

5. Captain Doug McKinnis makes final flight to Kodiak (kodiakdailymirror.com) — An Alaska Airlines captain is marking his final flight next week on a route from Anchorage to Kodiak, surrounded by family members with deep ties to both communities. The story traces his path from dreaming of Alaska adventures to serving in the Coast Guard and flying commercial routes, including connections to Anchorage's Air National Guard para-rescue unit.
