1. A Midtown Anchorage home has become a hub for crime. Police say they're moving to shut it down. (alaskapublic.org) — Neighbors in Midtown Anchorage are grappling with ongoing crime tied to a single-family home on East 37th Avenue, where a recent police shootout capped months of suspected drug deals and violence. Police Chief Sean Case says the department is now pursuing criminal abatement to potentially shut down the property or hold the owner liable, while nearby families feel trapped, fearful, and increasingly reluctant to let children play outside.
   

2. Anchorage Mayor Suzanne LaFrance commits to full city funding for school district (adn.com) — Anchorage's mayor says she'll back the maximum allowed city funding for the Anchorage School District next year, aiming to help close a projected $9 million budget gap. With large class sizes, recent program cuts, and shifting state support, city and school officials are coordinating early as they shape budgets that will affect taxes, staffing, and classroom conditions.
   

3. Biologists believe they may have found the bear that left a trail of destruction in Anchorage neighborhoods (alaskasnewssource.com) — A brown bear suspected in a string of garage and vehicle break-ins was euthanized in the Rabbit Creek area, but wildlife officials say at least one more brown bear may still be roaming Anchorage neighborhoods. Residents are urged to immediately report brown bear sightings via 311, the Fish and Game phone line, or 911 in emergencies so biologists and police can respond quickly.
   

4. Alaska's First Airbus H125 VR Simulator Coming to Anchorage (news-usa.today) — Anchorage will soon host Alaska's first Airbus H125 virtual reality flight simulator at Pathfinder Aviation's main base, bringing advanced helicopter training directly to local pilots. The system lets crews practice emergency and bad-weather scenarios without risking aircraft, potentially improving safety for missions across Alaska's rugged terrain while reducing the need to travel out of state for high-end simulation.
   

5. $25 can get rides around Anchorage all week (tvtv.com) — Anchorage riders can use People Mover to get around town all week for about $25, a budget-friendly alternative as local gas prices hover above $5 per gallon. With free rides for youth, select free days for seniors, and growing ridership, the bus system offers a practical way to cut transportation costs amid high fuel prices statewide.
