• After four decades of service, Emmonak Women's Shelter to get new building (kyuk.org) — Bethel is highlighted as the regional hub that Lower Yukon villages often reach through Emmonak when seeking shelter services, alongside Bethel’s own 43‑bed Tundra Women’s Coalition facility. Emmonak’s long-running women’s shelter, which also serves Bethel-area residents indirectly, is planning a safer, larger building inland, with construction expected to start in 2027 and opening by 2028 to better protect families from storms and overcrowding.

• Coast Guard Rescues Four from Ice Floe Near Chefornak After Overnight Ordeal (radiokenai.com) — A Coast Guard helicopter that refueled in Bethel helped rescue three adults and a child stranded on an ice floe during a subsistence seal hunt near Chefornak. After more than 24 hours stuck in shifting sea ice and harsh weather, the group was safely hoisted off the ice and flown back to Chefornak without injuries, thanks in part to their satellite communications.
