Gaffney Gate Construction to reroute access to Fort Wainwright this summer (webcenterfairbanks.com) — Starting Monday, April 20, drivers heading to Fort Wainwright in Fairbanks will be rerouted from the Gaffney Road main gate to the commercial entrance off the Steese Highway while major gate upgrades are built. Expect new lighting, three ID-check lanes, and a protective canopy aimed at improving safety, visibility, and traffic flow, with main work targeted for completion by June 1.

2. Post Malone Was Spotted In Fairbanks, Alaska, & Now Residents Are On The Lookout (whiskeyriff.com) — Post Malone has been quietly hanging out in Fairbanks, delighting locals with surprise gas-station encounters and generous gestures while on a break before his stadium tour. Residents and a local radio station are now on the lookout, hoping he’ll pop by for a visit or swag pickup before he leaves town.

3. Biking trail ends at the western coast (alaska.edu) — Two Fairbanks-based adventurers have ended their 515‑mile fat-bike journey short of Nome and are flying back home to Fairbanks after warm spring conditions turned the trail to slush near Unalakleet. Their monthlong ride, which began in Fairbanks on March 21, showcased Alaska’s backcountry, support from Fairbanks friends and family, and backing from the University of Alaska Fairbanks Geophysical Institute.

Lehti Joins Mavericks in Net (msumavericks.com) — Fairbanks hockey fans will recognize goaltender Lassi Lehti, who’s moving on from four strong seasons with the Alaska Nanooks to join Minnesota State as a graduate transfer. After posting standout numbers in net during his Fairbanks stint, he’ll bring that experience to the Mavericks next season.

Peltola posts massive campaign fundraising, but Republicans maintain cash advantage in Alaska congressional races (adn.com) — Alaska’s high-stakes U.S. Senate and House races are ramping up, with major fundraising shaping how campaigns will reach voters from Fairbanks to Southeast. A mining executive whose company operates the Manh Choh mine near Fairbanks is among Sen. Dan Sullivan’s donors, while challenger Mary Peltola shattered state fundraising records. Outside groups are already pouring millions into ads ahead of November.
