β’ In Kachemak Bay, Kotzebue and beyond, Alaskans are on the lookout for harmful algae blooms (adn.com) β Scientists and local partners are closely watching Kachemak Bay for harmful algae like Alexandrium and Pseudo-nitzschia, which can contaminate shellfish and threaten marine wildlife. Recent investigations into unexplained bird and sea otter deaths found no domoic acid yet, but experts say continued vigilance from Kachemak Bay residents is essential as warming waters drive more frequent blooms statewide.
