• Cottonwood-Oak Creek School District mulls bond election on November ballot (journalaz.com) — Cottonwood-Oak Creek School District is weighing a new bond for the November ballot that could fund safety upgrades, technology, and major repairs at Cottonwood Community School, Dr. Daniel Bright Elementary, and other campuses. Leaders are eyeing about $15 million in 2027, with a possible second $15 million in 2030, to tackle aging buildings, parking lot hazards, and improved cooling and security systems.
   

• Black Bear Diner closes doors (journalaz.com) — Black Bear Diner at SR 260 and 89A in Cottonwood has permanently closed after more than nine years, with no public explanation from the company. City Manager Mario Cifuentez says Cottonwood has hired Retail Strategies to court new national retailers for the prominent corner property.
   

• Arizona man asks Ninth Circuit to revive First Amendment retaliation claim (courthousenews.com) — A federal appeals panel is weighing whether an Arizona man can revive his First Amendment retaliation lawsuit stemming from a 2022 arrest at a Cottonwood campground. Judges signaled they may agree a sheriff’s lieutenant retaliated after the man’s critical YouTube video, but they seemed skeptical that broader internal actions by a captain illegally chilled his speech.
