Mesa's Parks department cuts won't impact most programs (eastvalleytribune.com) — Mesa’s parks department is proposing nearly $1 million in cuts that would close the aging Fremont Junior High pool, trim part-time hours, and eliminate the Spring Celebrate Mesa event, while keeping most programs and full-time jobs intact. City staff plan to shift summer camp excursions toward mobile recreation units and nearby pools, aiming to maintain services across more than 200 Mesa parks despite a required 2% budget reduction.

3. Mesa youth basketball is sight of latest measles exposure (ktar.com) — Families who attended an Arizona Youth Sports basketball game at Highland Junior High in Mesa on April 11 may have been exposed to measles and are urged to watch for symptoms through May 2. Maricopa County health officials stress checking MMR vaccination status, since measles is highly contagious and can lead to serious complications, and advise anyone with symptoms to stay home and call a doctor first.

4. Mesa mother hit by bullet fragments while out walking; police arrest suspect (azfamily.com) — A Mesa mother of six was struck in the legs by bullet fragments while walking near Val Vista Drive and Adobe Street, and police say the suspected shooter is now in custody. She’s recovering from multiple fragments, including one that nicked an artery, while detectives continue investigating why a gun was allegedly fired from a nearby home’s balcony.

5. Pilot OK after going off runway at Mesa's Falcon Field Airport (abc15.com) — An aircraft slid off the runway at Mesa’s Falcon Field Airport Wednesday morning, but no injuries were reported, according to Mesa Fire and Medical officials. Investigators are still determining what went wrong, amid a recent string of non-fatal and fatal small-plane incidents around Arizona, including several in the greater Phoenix area.
