📰 News we're reading

• Pond funded; easement holder ponders next step (tucsonlocalmedia.com) — Oro Valley has fully funded the $1.88 million reconstruction of the Vistoso Trails Nature Preserve irrigation pond and nearby parking, despite the mayor’s lone dissenting vote. The conservation easement holder, Archaeology Southwest, argues using reclaimed water could endanger people and wildlife due to PFAS chemicals and is weighing legal options. Supporters say the community has waited years to see visible restoration progress at the former Golf Club at Vistoso.

• Oro Valley IDs $3.2M gap in parks funds (tucsonlocalmedia.com) — Oro Valley leaders just learned the town had to cover a $3.2 million gap to operate major parks, pools, golf courses, and historic sites in 2024–25. A new report details which facilities cost the most, how much golf offsets other expenses, and how recent fee hikes and staffing needs could shape tough budget decisions affecting everyday park users.

• Volunteer's Are Heroes Too (blogspot.com) — Thousands of Oro Valley neighbors will pack James D. Kriegh Park on Sunday, Nov. 8, for the free Rockin’ 4 Heroes concert honoring first responders, military, veterans, and Gold Star families. The all-volunteer event leans on local groups like the Oro Valley Church of the Nazarene and the Town of Oro Valley, and organizers are actively seeking more volunteers and business partners to help power this year’s festivities.
