6 Phoenix Schools Land Among Arizona's Best High Schools: U.S. News

PHOENIX, AZ — Six Phoenix public high schools landed among Arizona's top 25 in the latest U.S. News & World Report rankings, with two BASIS schools placing in the state's top 12.

BASIS Ahwatukee ranked No. 10 in Arizona and No. 61 nationally, while BASIS Phoenix came in at No. 12 in Arizona and No. 74 nationally in U.S. News' 2026-27 Best High Schools rankings.

Arizona School for the Arts, Phoenix Union Bioscience High School, Horizon Honors Secondary School and Madison Highland Prep also made Arizona's top 25.

BASIS Ahwatukee and BASIS Phoenix are public charter schools within the BASIS Charter Schools network. Arizona School for the Arts, Horizon Honors Secondary School and Madison Highland Prep are also public charter schools. Phoenix Union Bioscience High School is part of the Phoenix Union High School District.

U.S. News reviewed more than 27,000 public high schools nationwide and ranked nearly 18,000 for its 2026-27 list. Charter and magnet schools were eligible, while private schools were not ranked because of limitations in publicly available data.

The rankings consider six indicators of school quality, including student performance in math, reading and science, participation and performance on college-level exams, and graduation rates. U.S. News worked with RTI International, a nonprofit research organization, to develop the rankings.

U.S. News uses a national percentile-based scoring system. A school with an overall score of 60, for example, performed in the 60th percentile among ranked schools. Schools in the bottom quarter are listed within a range rather than given an individual ranking.
