Phoenix Opens Survey On Renaming César Chávez Park — Here’s Why

Residents can vote on proposed names and submit ideas before survey results go to the Parks Board on June 25.

PHOENIX, AZ — Phoenix is asking residents to help choose a new name for the park and community center at 35th Avenue and Baseline Road — and the deadline to have a say is coming up fast.

The Phoenix Parks and Recreation Department has launched a community survey as part of the formal renaming process for the site, formerly known as César Chávez Park and Community Center.

Residents can vote on proposed names or submit their own suggestions. The survey is open now through June 14 and is available in English and Spanish at phoenix.gov/parks.

The renaming follows a Phoenix City Council vote on March 23, directing the city to begin renaming municipal facilities currently named after César Chávez.

The Parks and Recreation Board followed three days later, instructing staff to launch the formal process.

Survey results will be presented at the Parks and Recreation Board meeting on June 25, along with a staff recommendation on a proposed name. That recommendation will be shaped by the public feedback collected through the survey.

Residents are encouraged to participate before the June 14 deadline.
