Drivers Face New Restrictions As 68th Street Joins Scottsdale Flood Project

SCOTTSDALE, AZ — Another stretch of Scottsdale road is feeling the effects of the city's regional flood mitigation push.

Starting June 29, traffic on 68th Street between Continental Drive and Moreland Avenue will be limited to local access only as crews trench and install storm drain infrastructure, the latest phase of the Roosevelt Street Storm Drain project.

It's the second known traffic impact tied to the project in just over a week. Continental Drive and College Avenue closed June 22 for similar work and isn't expected to reopen until July 10.

The $13 million project, a joint effort between Scottsdale, Tempe and the Flood Control District of Maricopa County, is extending an existing 78-inch storm drain to better capture stormwater from streets north of Roosevelt Street and Continental Drive and improve drainage to the south.

Tempe is the lead agency on the work, which includes 7,500 linear feet of storm drain and additional catch basins and manholes along 74th, 70th and 68th streets.

No detour route was included in the announcement for the 68th Street restriction. The full project is expected to wrap up in December 2026, and residents can track updates at ScottsdaleAZ.gov by searching "Roosevelt Street Storm Drain."

For now, drivers in the area should expect continued construction activity and limited access on multiple neighborhood streets as the project moves through its next phases.
