AG seeks to reopen rate case for water utility serving Yuma subdivision (yumasun.com) — Residents of Yuma's Tierra Mesa subdivision are at the center of a push by Arizona's attorney general to reopen a water rate case after bills reportedly jumped as much as 300 percent and concerns about unsafe drinking water surfaced. The request urges state regulators to reconsider Cactus State Utility's rates and address ongoing quality, pressure, and notification issues affecting many retirees and families on fixed incomes.
   

2. HSOY highlights long-stay dogs and cats in need of homes (kyma.com) — If you've been thinking about adopting a pet in Yuma, several long-stay dogs and cats at the Humane Society of Yuma are urgently hoping for new homes, including a senior Lab mix named Denny. Through September, you can name your price for cats and kittens, and this Saturday's Adopt Joy event at PetSmart in Yuma Palms will showcase many adoptable animals.
   

3. Yuma Students Invited to Design America 250 Poster (signalsaz.com) — Yuma students from kindergarten through 12th grade can help represent the city nationally by designing a poster for the America 250 celebration, with entries due by October 23. Artwork must highlight Yuma's history and community, include the words "Yuma" and "America 250," and follow nonpartisan guidelines, with Mayor Doug Nicholls selecting the final design.

MCAS Yuma nabs 2026 Commander in Chief's Award for Installation Excellence (yumasun.com) — Marine Corps Air Station Yuma has just earned the 2026 Commander in Chief's Award for Installation Excellence, highlighting the base's top-tier management and support for military missions. From managing vast training ranges to improving housing and energy resilience, MCAS Yuma's work directly shapes daily life, jobs, and economic activity in and around Yuma.
   

5. Matadors maintain unbeaten streak on home turf against Irvine Valley (kyma.com) — Arizona Western College's men's soccer team kept its home unbeaten streak alive in Yuma with a 1-1 draw against Irvine Valley, despite dominating chances and leading early. Local fans saw captain Noah Segura score first before the visitors equalized in the second half, as the Matadors now prepare for a road trip to Eastern Arizona.
