• Jury delivers 10-year prison sentence to felon caught with firearm (advancemonticellonian.com) — A Drew County jury has sentenced a Monticello woman to 10 years in state prison after police found a handgun and drugs during a 2025 encounter in town. Monticello officers, Drew County jail staff, and prosecutors all played key roles in the case, which officials say is meant to deter other felons from carrying firearms locally. 
• 77 graduate Camden ALETA Class 2026-A - (arkadelphian.com) — A Monticello Police Department officer, Jailen Miller, is among 77 cadets graduating from the Arkansas Law Enforcement Training Academy in Camden, earning special recognition for academic performance. The statewide class represents 46 agencies and completed intensive training in law, firearms, fitness, emergency response, and community engagement, preparing them to return to their communities, including Monticello, as new officers.
• UAM professor receives Distinguished Service Award at national convention (stuttgartdailyleader.com) — A longtime University of Arkansas at Monticello English professor, Dr. Kate Stewart, has been honored with Alpha Chi’s Distinguished Service Award for three decades of mentoring top scholars. She and several UAM students and co-advisors recently traveled to Orlando, where students presented research and faculty helped judge undergraduate work, highlighting the strong academic reputation growing right here in Monticello.
