• Church letter postmarked in 1955 returned to sender (ksl.com) — Christ Episcopal Church in Alameda recently received a letter returned by the post office that was originally mailed in 1955, containing a long-delayed baptismal certificate. The church is now trying to reach the baptized woman's family, possibly linked to the former Alameda air base, and is asking anyone with information to contact them.
   

• In 1905, according to the Popsicle origin story, an 11-year-old in the San Francisco Bay Area left a cup of soda mixture outside overnight with its stirring stick still inside and found it frozen by m (scienceblog.com) — A deep dive into the Popsicle's origins traces how Bay Area resident Frank Epperson turned a childhood frozen drink accident into a patented frozen treat. By the early 1920s, he was selling his "Epsicles" at Neptune Beach in Alameda, linking a beloved summer snack to the city's former waterfront amusement park and its role in early West Coast leisure culture.
