• In L.A.'s 'Chinese Beverly Hills,' fighting back against Chinese communist infiltration (latimes.com subscription) — Arcadia officials are crafting new safeguards to protect City Hall from foreign government influence after former Councilmember Eileen Wang agreed to plead guilty to acting as an illegal agent of China. Local leaders, residents, and outside experts discuss proposed policies, community tensions, and how the city can balance vigilance against interference with support for its large Chinese American population.
   

• Man Killed in Single-Vehicle Arcadia Crash (mynewsla.com) — A 36-year-old man died early Saturday after crashing his SUV into a center median tree on North Baldwin Avenue at Stanford Drive in Arcadia, prompting an eight-hour road closure for investigation. Police are still examining what caused the single-vehicle collision and are asking anyone with information to contact the Arcadia Police Department or leave an anonymous tip with Crime Stoppers.
   

• The Red Cross and Hello Kitty® and Friends join forces to help save lives (redcross.org) — Arcadia residents can donate blood locally this September at The Shops at Santa Anita and the American Red Cross Arcadia Chapter, with special Hello Kitty-themed thank-you gifts for early-month donors. The Red Cross warns supplies remain vulnerable heading into fall and encourages appointments now to help prevent shortages across Southern California and beyond.
