Arcata-area STR gets a Planco thumbs down (madriverunion.com) — Humboldt County’s Planning Commission has rejected a permit for a short‑term rental just outside Arcata’s city limits after neighbors complained about late‑night noise and hot‑tub activity. Commissioners cited quality‑of‑life impacts and zoning issues, leaving the out‑of‑town owner to either reapply with fixes, face possible code enforcement, or appeal to the Board of Supervisors.
   

2. OurSpace Mobile delivers art, services and community (madriverunion.com) — Arcata residents can now regularly access free art supplies and creative space through OurSpace Mobile, a City-supported truck-and-trailer community art center that stops weekly at the Arcata Transit Center. The program focuses on housed, housing-insecure, and unhoused neighbors, emphasizing participant-led decision-making, collaboration with other groups, and a welcoming, judgment-free environment for making art outdoors.
   

3. Arcata Fairy Festival takes flight (times-standard.com) — Arcata’s Fairy Festival is set to transform the Arcata Plaza into a “Tidal Dreams” shoreline on June 28, with live music, aerial arts, costume contests, and roaming mermaids and dragons. Residents can browse local artisans, enjoy food and craft drinks, and support nonprofits while being encouraged to walk, bike, or carpool and bring reusable dishes.
   

4. Humboldt Crabs sweep midweek tilts with Fresno A's (times-standard.com) — The Humboldt Crabs just pounded the Fresno A’s in back‑to‑back games at Arcata Ballpark, stretching their unbeaten start to 9–0. With hot bats, sharp pitching, and a feel‑good debut for local bullpen catcher‑turned‑Crab Tanner Keys, the team heads into this weekend’s Rocklin series giving Arcata fans plenty to cheer about.
   

5. Humboldt County Is Getting a Major Upgrade to Its Tsunami Warning System (activenorcal.com) — Arcata is one of several Humboldt coastal communities in the tsunami inundation zone, and the county is now upgrading warning systems after a recent offshore 7.0 quake exposed gaps. Improvements will target faster alerts, more sirens, and better public education, while residents are reminded to head for high ground immediately after strong, prolonged shaking.
