Arroyo Grande has first Firewise Community within city limits (knews985.com) — Neighbors in Arroyo Grande’s Las Jollas de Rancho Grande have formed the city’s first Firewise-certified community, aiming to cut wildfire risk and possibly lower insurance costs. With eastern Arroyo Grande now labeled a high fire-severity zone, residents are assessing each home, creating a three-year mitigation plan, and encouraging other city neighborhoods to contact the Fire Safe Council to get started.

She argues officials mishandled records and guidance, while prosecutors allege she improperly registered at a James Way address and misreported campaign finances, with a trial set for late August.

Former Bike SLO Co. exec. director gets jail, probation sentence for lewd acts charge (ksby.com) — A former Bike SLO County executive director has been sentenced to 364 days in jail and three years’ probation after a no-contest plea to a lewd acts charge involving a child, with the crime reported at his Arroyo Grande home. A protective order limits his contact with children, and he is scheduled to begin serving his sentence in August.

Cal Poly to honor Kristin Smart with new memorial grove 30 years after her disappearance (cbsnews.com) — Cal Poly is creating “Kristin’s Grove,” a new memorial space near Dexter Lawn to honor Kristin Smart and offer students a place to reflect. The project follows continued investigations into her 1996 disappearance, including a recent search of an Arroyo Grande home linked to Paul Flores’ family, and is expected to open by fall semester.
