Ross Stores plans to build new distribution center in Bakersfield, investing $500M (kget.com) — Bakersfield has landed a $500 million Ross Stores distribution center that city officials say will create nearly 1,000 jobs near East Belle Terrace and Mount Vernon Avenue. Local leaders call it the city's largest job-generating project in decades, expecting more than $100 million in annual economic impact as Ross recruits locally and expands its Kern County footprint.
   

2. Diesel prices keep climbing in California, squeezing Bakersfield drivers and truckers (bakersfieldnow.com) — Bakersfield drivers and trucking companies are being hit hard as local diesel prices jump to $8.11 a gallon, up 43 cents in a week. 4. Rep. Josh Harder bill calling for Golden Mussel eradication, control advances in Congress (kget.com) — Bakersfield and Kern County water supplies face a growing threat from invasive Golden Mussels, and a new bill in Congress has just cleared a key subcommittee to boost eradication and control efforts. The proposal would fund rapid-response monitoring, new inspection technology, and better coordination among agencies to protect local water infrastructure that agriculture and residents rely on.
