2 Dead Over Just 2 Days In Jurupa Valley Crashes

Monday's crash involved two semi trucks. The day before, a 23-year-old man was killed in a crash.

JURUPA VALLEY, CA — A crash Sunday on state Route 60 in Jurupa Valley left the driver of an SUV dead, and another motorist was killed Monday in a separate traffic collision near the same area.

The first crash was reported around 6 a.m. Sunday on the eastbound side of the freeway, west of Country Village Road, according to the California Highway Patrol.

A Mitsubishi Outlander veered off the right shoulder of the road into a ditch, trapping the driver, according to a CHP incident log.

The driver, identified by the coroner as 23-year-old Alfredo Ortega of Rialto, was transported to Riverside Community Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The second crash, involving two semi-trucks, was reported just before 4:30 a.m. Monday near Etiwanda and Inland avenues.

When Riverside County sheriff's deputies arrived at the scene, they found one of the semi drivers on the ground suffering from major injuries. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the sheriff's department.

The victim's identity was withheld pending notification of next of kin.

The other truck driver involved in the crash was transported to a local hospital in stable condition, the law enforcement agency reported.

The crash cause remains under investigation. Alcohol and/or drugs did not appear to be factors, according to the sheriff's department.

The crash investigation required the temporary closure of Etiwanda Avenue from Philadelphia Avenue to Hopkins Street.
