8 Drivers Arrested During Banning DUI Checkpoint

BANNING, CA — Eight people were arrested and 23 drivers were cited during a DUI checkpoint conducted over the weekend in Banning, law enforcement officials announced Monday.

The Banning Police Department held the operation from 6 p.m. Friday to 1:30 a.m. Saturday in the 4500 block of West Ramsey Street.

Officers contacted 698 vehicles as they passed through the checkpoint. A total of 23 drivers received citations for operating a vehicle without a license or with a suspended or revoked license.

Additionally, officers arrested eight people for driving with a license suspended due to a prior DUI conviction, and one person was arrested on an outstanding DUI warrant.

Police select checkpoint locations based on historical data of impaired-driving collisions and incidents, aiming to deter drivers and remove impaired individuals from the roadway.

Funding for the operation was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
