Coroner IDs RivCo Man Killed On Train Tracks

JURUPA VALLEY, CA — A 39-year-old man who was struck and killed by a commuter train in Jurupa Valley Monday was confirmed to be a resident of the city.

Shortly before 8 p.m., Joseph Crain was fatally injured on the Union Pacific Railroad line train tracks near Van Buren Boulevard and 56th Street, according to the Riverside County Sheriff's Department Coroner's Bureau.

Crain was at a point on the north-south rail line where there is no marked pedestrian or vehicle crossing. He was on foot, and fatally struck by a Metrolink train, according to a Union Pacific spokesperson.

The company declined to provide any further details.

According to county fire officials, an engine crew reached the location a few minutes after the victim was hit and pronounced him dead at the scene.

No one aboard the train was injured.

It was unclear how long rail traffic was held up during the ensuing investigation.
