Driver Dies After Slamming Into Parked Vehicle In Moreno Valley

That crash was reported just after 3 a.m. Tuesday near the intersection of Heacock Street and Poppystone Drive.

MORENO VALLEY, CA — A driver died early Tuesday morning after crashing into a parked, unoccupied vehicle in Moreno Valley, according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.

Deputies from the Moreno Valley Sheriff's Station responded at 3:08 a.m. to a report of a major-damage collision near the intersection of Heacock Street and Poppystone Drive.

Upon arrival, emergency personnel found two vehicles with heavy damage. The driver and sole occupant of the moving vehicle sustained significant injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The sheriff's station Traffic Reconstruction Team responded to lead the investigation. The crash and subsequent investigation forced the temporary full closure of Heacock Street between John F. Kennedy Drive and Gentian Avenue, though the roadway has since reopened.

The identity of the decedent is being withheld pending notification of next of kin by the coroner's office. The cause of the collision remains under investigation.
