Electric Car Catches Fire, Ignites RivCo Hillside

BEAUMONT, CA — An electric vehicle caught fire on Gilman Springs Road and ignited a nearby field Thursday, both Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire and the California Highway Patrol reported.

At 1:45 p.m., an electric vehicle caught fire in the community of Eden and was fully ablaze upon arrival of first responders, according to California Highway Patrol officers.

"The vehicle ignited nearby brush where it came to rest at Gilman Springs Road at Bridge Street," Tara Fernandez, spokesperson for Cal Fire, told Patch. "Arriving firefighters found the car fire extended into a 20 x 20 area of brush, which firefighters quickly extinguished."

Three additional engines and a Haz Mat team were en route as of 2:15 p.m., and environmental health officials were also en route.

There were no known injuries as of this report; however, the length of the car fire was yet to be determined, according to Cal Fire.

Westbound lanes of Peppertree Way were closed as emergency responders arrived at the scene. By 2:30 p.m., one lane of traffic was open.
