NUEVO, CA — A groundbreaking ceremony is scheduled Wednesday in Nuevo to mark the start of construction on an expansion project along the Ramona Expressway to improve traffic flows and safety between San Jacinto and Lakeview.

Riverside County Transportation Commission officials will host the event for the "Mid County Parkway Project" at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday in the agency's Project Yard at 4406 Ramona Expressway.

The $184 million enterprise will entail installing an additional east- and westbound lane — turning the corridor into a four-lane, instead of a two-lane, passage — on an 8.6-mile stretch, between Lake Perris in the Lakeview community to the west and the northern edge of San Jacinto, near the junction of Highway 79, to the east.

Crews also will be tasked with constructing a new bridge at the San Jacinto River, raising the center median for improved traffic separation, and adding traffic signals at strategic locations, according to RCTC.

Construction is likely to wrap up before the end of 2028, officials said.
