RivCo Inmate Accused Of Attempted Murder After Assault At Jail: Sheriff
The victim was transported to a hospital in critical condition, authorities said.
BANNING, CA — A 55-year-old inmate was accused of murder after deputies stopped an assault inside of a jail cell that left an inmate in critical condition, authorities said.
On Tuesday, just after midnight, deputies at Larry Smith Correctional Facility were alerted to an assault occurring inside one of the jail cells. Deputies immediately responded and stopped the assault, according to the Riverside County Sheriff's Department.
Investigators identified the suspect as Artemio Gonzalez who was detained after the alleged assault.

Medical personnel provided care to the victim until paramedics arrived and transported him to a local hospital in critical condition.
Gonzalez remains in custody, and a case will be submitted to the Riverside District Attorney’s Office for attempted murder, according to Riverside County Sheriff's Department.
