Bolds, known for her "Put the Guns Down" youth work and plans for a Visions of Hope community center, will be recognized alongside other women for decades of service to local families. 
• Fairfield to celebrate Manufacturing Week amid changing industrial landscape (pressdemocrat.com) — Benicia readers are directly affected as the Valero refinery's idling and layoffs are highlighted alongside Fairfield's brewery closure, underscoring major industrial job losses in Solano County. Fairfield is responding with an October Manufacturing Week to connect students and job seekers with evolving manufacturing careers and to advocate for broader economic investment, signaling how the region is trying to rebuild opportunity after these shocks.
• 'Rio' The River Whale Makes Hopeful Turn Toward SF Bay, But No Further Sightings Yet (patch.com) — Benicia briefly became part of a rare wildlife story as a humpback whale nicknamed Rio was spotted in the Carquinez Strait near town while wandering far inland from San Francisco Bay. Researchers now believe Rio has turned back toward the ocean, and they're asking local boaters to give whales plenty of space and report any new sightings through Whale Alert or the Marine Mammal Center.
