4. Berkeley Team Builds Genomic Language Model to Pinpoint Key Genetic Variants (seqanswers.com) — UC Berkeley researchers have created a new genomic language AI model, GPN-Star, that more efficiently predicts which DNA variants may affect traits and disease risk. By training on aligned genomes across species and using far less computing power than rival models, the Berkeley team hopes to help labs worldwide prioritize experiments and speed discoveries that could ultimately improve human health.
   

5. A Berkeley restaurant worker's week-long saga in ICE detention (berkeleyside.org) — A longtime manager at Berkeley's Oceanview Diner was abruptly detained by ICE at the Oakland airport, then shuttled between detention centers before a federal judge ordered his release.
