• South Bay deals with effects of weekend storm (fox5sandiego.com) — Bonita residents saw emergency crews respond Sunday to a tree trimmer trapped high in a tree, who was safely lowered but died at the scene as the weekend storm moved out. Across the South Bay, flooding closed Monument Road in Imperial Beach and soaked sports fields, while volunteers worked to clear trash washing onto local beaches despite improvements from the Tijuana River Trash Boom Project.

• County closes Bonita animal shelter, relocates animals to new Santee facility (fox5sandiego.com) — Bonita’s longtime county animal shelter has been permanently closed, with all dogs, cats, birds, and livestock being moved to a new, larger facility in Santee opening Thursday. County officials say the modern center will offer better medical care, bigger kennels, and improved adoption spaces, meaning Bonita residents will now need to travel to Santee or Carlsbad for county shelter services.
