Alta Vista Insurance Agency Earns Make More Happen™ Award for Supporting Local Food Bank

Alta Vista Insurance Agency Earns Make More Happen™ Award for Supporting Local Food Bank

Supporters Can Help Unlock a $10,000 Donation by Voting for Their Agency Giving Story

Liberty Mutual Insurance has awarded Alta Vista Insurance Agency a 2026 Make More Happen™ Award for its dedication to fighting hunger for families across San Diego County through its support of the Jacobs & Cushman San Diego Food Bank. The award includes a $5,000 donation, which can be doubled to $10,000 through online community support.

The Alta Vista Insurance Agency’s story is featured on the official Make More Happen microsite, https://www.agentgiving.com/alta-vista-insurance-agency, where supporters can vote to help unlock the full $10,000 donation. If the story receives at least 750 combined votes and comments, the $5,000 award will be doubled. A $10,000 Make More Happen Award would provide support for 35 children in the Food 4 Kids Backpack Program for the entire school year, helping ensure they have nutritious food to take home on weekends when school meals are not available.

For Morgan Hege and the team at Alta Vista Insurance Agency, hunger hits close to home. Hege’s wife teaches at a Title 1 school and has seen the difference in her students’ performance when they have consistent access to food. It's why the agency supports the Food 4 Kids Backpack Program through the Jacobs & Cushman San Diego Food Bank. The program helps ensure children have nutritious food on weekends when school meals aren't available, and the Food Bank's nearby North County warehouse has made it easy for Alta Vista to deepen its support through volunteering and community involvement. Last year, the Food Bank served an average of 3,617 children each month through the program at 95 Title I elementary schools across San Diego County.

“As an independent agency, we maximize our clients’ dollars by providing a variety of options and exceptional service. The San Diego Food Bank does the same by multiplying the impact of every dollar received to feed our community,” says Morgan Hege, Principal, Alta Vista Insurance Agency. “We love introducing our network to the Food 4 Kids Backpack Program and seeing them become champions for the food bank too.”

The San Diego Food Bank does more than distribute food: it buys in bulk and repackages it for families, runs a diaper bank to support families, and supplies the weekly backpack program for area students. Alta Vista volunteers there quarterly, bringing along carrier partners, staff, and their families, and organizes canned food drives with Independent Insurance Agents & Brokers of San Diego (IIAB San Diego) during the holidays.

For the Alta Vista Insurance Agency team, the impact of their work is helping keep North County families fed and introducing their network to the backpack program and the food bank.

“Recognizing independent agents’ dedication to their communities and nonprofit partners is what the Make More Happen Awards are all about,” said Nancy Trejo, Senior Territory Manager, Liberty Mutual Insurance. “Alta Vista Insurance Agency's commitment to the Jacobs & Cushman San Diego Food Bank demonstrates the powerful role local businesses can play in supporting community members in need.”

Throughout 2026, Liberty Mutual Insurance will select up to 36 independent agencies nationwide for a Make More Happen Award, donating up to $360,000 to nonprofits they support. Agencies become eligible for the award by submitting applications that highlight their commitment to a specific cause.
